There is but one thing money cannot buy - to wit- the wag of a dog's tail.

The very old farmer is sitting on the bench in the middle of the village green . Every morning as regular as clockwork, or as regularly as his angina will allow, he wanders over to the graveyard and sits by the side of his wife's tomb for an hours chat. '' Bonjour M'Ongoose. I've just been over measuring up my new house ". He points towards the graveyard as he says this.

'' Tu es sage " he says to Sophie . She moves closer so that she can get a tickle behind the ear. Bob gets stroked under his chin. Neither of them in the slightest bit alarmed by this strange figure . Some, a few, people alarm them and they shy away. Others , the majority, they accept without hesitation. Is it the self confidence of the human in question or something else ?  The secrets of a dogs judgement.

Dear ANGUS: There MUST be two videos meant to be there......but all we
see are two very blank white squares. Hungry for more antics of BOB and
SOPHIE in action.........hoping the videos will appear soon. Thanks.

Oh dear. There seems to be a blogger problem this morning. Have tried down loading again but no luck.

We can't see the videos either.

We think the old farmer's quietness might make the pups like him.

Merlin's responses vary wildly. Is it something they sense in the energy exchanged between owner / other person, in the moment? Do they defer to the confidence of their owner? I suppose a combination and many other things.
I have the same problem with the video this morning.
Have a great day.

Sadly, still no videos appearing. However - you filled all of us up yesterday with (1) the priceless photos of SOPHIE at "Oven-Watch" for the croissants, and (2) with the heartwarming/heart-tugging story of BOB's first "Dad-Son" visit to the barbers, where he nestled down in WILF's exact spot. Collective tears all 'round the globe, I have no doubt. Fingers crossed we will see the videos yet......warmest regards from the Westcoast of Canada!

Sorry. Have tried everything to get the viedos to embed. It is unfortunately a blogger ' gremlin ' day.

I've wondered why dogs like some people and others they don't--But I know that I meet people that I just pretty much instantly dislike and it's not for any rational reason that I could articulate, perhaps dogs are the same way??

I have friend in Aberdeen who insists that his Westie always takes a dislike to people who are weirdly dressed.

Dogs are very wise creatures. They are very good at deciphering people. I've had a few dubious friends over the years that my dogs just would NOT tolerate. Needless to say, those dubious "friends" are no longer in my life.
Now I judge all visitors that arrive at my home by the reaction from my dog....as you already know in your heart, they have impeccable judgment.
I feel sorry for the old farmer, and Bob and Sophie are well tuned in to his feelings...they know he needs comfort.
Double Drat to Blogger...I'm missing the videos...maybe later.

I have always said I don't like people who don't like dogs. Bob and Sophie have that instinct as well and shy away from those people. Luckily most of the world is charmed by the balls of fur, we are blessed to know these two.

Dogs have excellent judgement when it comes t people, I have found.
Not so excellent when it comes to what they should or should not eat! All too often Lulu will eat something quite disgusting and a poorly tummy follows.

I always trust their opinions of people.

I've often wondered about dogs' judgement, too! I don't know, but I've rarely seen them be wrong.

zeke (my pon) and i were walking one day in a park. he loved everybody - even kitties. i was used to him wagging whenever someone approached. this day we were the only ones there. a lady very late middle aged was walking on the path toward us. slowly. as she approached, zeke stopped dead in his tracks and refused to budge. so i just stood there with him.
he growled a deep low guttural growl. i'd never heard him be like that before!
she came closer slowly walking toward us. he continued to growl but didn't move.
as she got near us ~ without even stopping she smiled and said in this strange quiet voice ~
"what's the matter? do you think i'm evil?"
she kept walking. he turned and looked at her walk past us. still growling. WOW. talk about creepy!
there was something there. and he KNEW it. i have no doubt he knew it. they are amazing. never saw her again.
and....
wordpress is no better. i suddenly cannot upload a single picture to my blog. aaggghh.

Stella must be like my late Dad, she gives everybody she meets a tailwagging chance!

Pamela Terry and Edward summed it up perfectly.

I think dogs know if you have a good heart! Even if sometimes it is hard to find!

Older videos have vanished, as well. At least on my screen. The wonders of modern technology.
