He who has health has hope; and he who has hope has everything.

The large pot now sits on a tree stump in the courtyard. What a weight ! The potter says it's stoneware and frost proof. How many times have I heard that ? One thing is certain - it's not moving.

Aude the decaratrice talks away happily to herself as she limewashes the winter kitchen walls.Outside her bib overalled friend mixes cement for the garden terrace. From time to time they can be found sitting, chatting, on a garden bench in the orchard enjoying a ' roll your own ' cigarette. ' The font ' is not entirely sure the womens cooperative smoke tobacco.

I'm supposed to write something for ' men in dark suits '. Bob wanders into the office and wonders why I'm not outside in the sunshine.'' You've got twenty minutes and then we'll go and chase squirrels ". He falls asleep, head on my foot .

Time for their worming tablets. Their first adult dose. Sophie doesn't respond at all well to the Drontal. She lies in the kitchen crying. Full time reassurance called for.  In future we'll find a different way of worming.

Sounds like Sophie is developing her attention seeking skills...

Join Aude for a 'cigarette'....it might make writing for men in dark suits easier--and more interesting.

Poor Sophie - didn't you wrap her tablet in pate or butter? its a foul tasting tablet....

Lulu takes her worming tablet in a lump of smelly cheese. Old Chaource does the trick.
My previous poodle would only take hers pressed into a piece of smoked salmon rolled up with cream cheese.
Don't ask......

She happily had it with a lump of cheese. It was the subsequent stomach pains that were the problem. That's why we'll have to find an alternative treatment.

An Immovable pot eh? Bob & Sophie - A challenge awaits :-/

Bless little Sophie- hope she's better now. Could you let us know what the suitable replacement is - taking notes for Kitty!

Have fun X

The pot is lovely, and I think it's a good thing it's not going in the cellar with the others!

We've had the same reaction with a few of our dogs from Drontal--I now have a test done prior to see if it's needed and if it's all clear, we skip it. There are other alternatives like panacur and interceptor..... ~~Hope your girl feels better, and you get that speech done!

Haven't heard of Interceptor. Panacur doesn't seem to deal with tapeworm and you have to have a supplement. Did these alternatives work for any of yours and avoid the reactions ? We've also got a similar problem with Bob and Avantix. He trembles uncontrollably as though he;s having a fit. We have to use FrontLine on him with a Scalabor collar.

Brownie gets Sanium Plus tablets for worming. I usually hide them in a piece of meat, and he swallows them whole. He has no idea. Sometimes they make him vomit, but not a lot to be concerned with. It's just like when he eats grass to clear his stomach.
In my experience I find the Panacur to be too strong for small dogs and they react violently to it.
Please don't leave the BIGGG pot outside in the weather. If it is tall enough it can store umbrellas and walking sticks by the hallway door.
Hope you got through with your speech for the men in dark suits.

I haven't used Frontline in years, it made all my dogs violently ill.
I find that if I give Brownie a bath every month, and brush and comb him twice a day, he remains clean of fleas and ticks. I haven't seen either of these blood sucking creatures for over a year.

Thanks. I'll look up Sanium Plus. It's not getting her to swallow the tablets that's the problem ( if they can swallow a poionous toad they'll make short work of tablets ) it's the evident and extended stomach pains that followed. They were strong enough to stop her sleeping for five hours - she cried constantly. By contrast Bob wasn't in the slightest bit bothered. Sophie is by far and away the more independent of the two and it's the first time she's needed a major dose of TLC. Must have been painful.

Let's see how long the giant pot will remain standing and how many times it will need to be righted with two inquisitive PON's around.
Some of our other blogging friends have had problems with this medication as well. The suggestion made by Kim at Golden Pines (above) seems to be quite sound.

I am about to try Merlin on Milbemax.
It covers hookworms, roundworms, tapeworms and heart worm. It's a treatment for infection but I have been told that it is also a preventative. One tablet last three months.
Have a great day.

Poor Sophie! I've heard Drontal can be pretty harsh.

Hmmm... I wonder what the women's cooperative might smoke besides tobacco...

Thanks. Will you let u know how it goes ?

Poor Sophie!! Was this as a preventive measure, or a treatment?? We never give our dogs Drontal unless they actually have tapeworms. As a monthly preventative we prefer Heartgard Plus since it addresses both heart worms and a bevvy of other parasites; and it seems to be much gentler on the dogs, we've never had a problem with it. Since tapeworms are ingested by chewing fleas, with monthly applications of a topical flea treatment (Advantage) we haven't needed to give Mitzi and Emmy Drontal again.

Hope Sophie won't have to endure Drontal ever again. Mitzi and Emmy send licks and kisses to make her feel better!

P.S.: I get Mitzi's and Emmy's Heartgard here (after their annual blood test to make sure they did not get heart worm infected):

Drontal is the default prescription here. Now that I've seen the reaction we'll do some more homework and find an alternative. Thanks for telling us about HeartGuard.

I wonder if giving Sophie a small bowl of yogurt half an hour before the pill would ease/prevent the stomach cramps? The pup had to be given deworming powder on her food for a few days after we adopted her and that did the trick.

Given at 7pm. I will give you an update tomorrow.

Poor, poor Sophie. She didn't sleep for five hours? That medicine definitely is not for her.

Being extremely innocent I was not sure at first what the font meant by the tobacco comment . . .
