Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, it empties today of its strength.

August heat. The village deserted and eerily quiet in that way only French villages can be. The young farmers and their families at the beach. The older inhabitants sheltering from the sun behind their shutters.

Here at The Rickety Old Farmhouse life continues its steady course. Loic the gardener arrives to strim the weeds in the ditch on the lane. Aude, the decaratrice, applies a second coat of paint to the beams in the dressing room. The lady in bib overalls with the cement mixer finishes re grouting the garden wall. The Old Farmer wanders across to tell us about his trip to Lithuania.

The big news of the day. We've found a new cleaning lady. Caroline. She comes highly recommended by the Womens Cooperative.  Caroline is a dead ringer for Victor Meldrews wife in that 1990's British Comedy Classic ' One foot in the grave '. 'The font' thinks Caroline will be very efficient. Angus wonders if this is another word for 'bossy'. Caroline says she loves dogs. Bob looks at her in a way that says he's not sure if the feelings going to be reciprocated. Caroline is going to have to learn about digestive biscuits.

I am sure Bob and Sophie will have her trained in no time at all.
Your walls look so straight. I don't think I have any here!
Have a great day.

We love the pups too! However she is extremely fortunate to be able to spoil them with attention.

Am a bit disappointed the women's cooperative did not recommend a male cleaner...

I love Victor Meldrew's wife. I hope Caroline proves to be as long-suffering!

She'll soon learn about the digestive biscuits, who could resist such cute faces. (and by the way, are Bob's legs getting even longer ?)

At this rate I fear he's going to turn into the worlds tallest PON.

That is a very true saying that you have posted today.....I shall remember it.
August heat here too, very HOTTT.
So happy that you have found a new cleaning lady. I still can't believe that Madame Bay won't be around any more....she is a real character. Bob and Sophie will let you know if Caroline will work out or not.
I see the lady of the house has made an executive decision on the paint colour for the beams.....smile.

Your August heat somehow seems more romantic than ours. Once this old American farmhouse is "done" the two pooches and I would love to have a cleaning lady come in on a regular basis. But my expat (aka grumpy old English guy kind of like Meldrews' character, but not as old) is not too keen on a "stranger" cleaning up after us, but he has yet to volunteer his own services.

Can't wait to read about Caroline :)

Caroline will fit in nicely if she has biscuits tucked into the pocket of her apron. Glad someone has the August heat. It has been unusually cool in Iowa, not complaining, but we have really only had 2 weeks of summer.

Caroline is in for a treat!
I hope the two PONs soon have her trained to their requirements.

I'm sure if she shares cookies or starts wearing bacon perfume that Bob and Sophie will make friends with her. I'm still begging for just one picture of one of Madame Bay's outfits!

Angus said...

Bacon perfume would do it.

Victor Meldrew?
That is one stern face.
My best wishes! :)

Have they outgrown the bed?

What would ever make you think that ?

Victor Meldrew's wife? I don't believe it.

Bob and Sophie are looking especially adorable in the last photo.
