When you jump for joy, beware that no one removes the ground from beneath your feet.

Bob and Sophie hate water. Bath time an invention of the very devil himself. To be avoided at all costs. However, when it comes to going out in the rain, particularly if it's mixed with a bit of sleet and snow and being blown horizontally in your face by a gale force wind, they can't seem to get enough.

Can anyone explain why dogs abhor one sort of water and adore another ? Maybe it's just another canine mystery.

My Stella, a lab/spaniel mix loves to swim in the lake, dunking her head underwater, but won't go out in the rain because she hates getting her feet wet! Your guess is as good as mine!

Jo, now I know why Stella and Bertie don't always get on! Like Bob and Sophie, Bertie seems indifferent to any form of precipitation. But he absolutely won't go swimming, or even venture to cross a stream more than two inches deep. He is OK about baths at home, so long as the water is warm! As Angus says, another canine mystery.
Cheers,
Gail.

Our black lab, Inca, doesn't like putting her paws on wet grass but seems compelled to swim in icy lakes to chase ducks. Dogs are unfathomable at times!

My cavalier is like a Princess, hates getting her paws wet, wouldn't dream of swimming in a lake but adores have baths and being pampered. Kinda a inverse PON really

Same thing here. Water in the river or puddle is okay....but sprinkler, bath or rain, no way!

Shampoo, perhaps? Is it the smell?

It's an unsolved mystery for sure.....Brownie loves to run around in the rain but not to get his feet wet/soaked in a puddle. If the lawn is wet where he does his business, it will be dumped in the driveway....I guess it's something about getting between his toes wet.
He seems to tolerate bath time okay though.
All of us dog lovers should have a Dog Lovers Conference one of these days.....the topics for discussion will go on for days.

my little pon zeke was exactly the same. in the hottest of our summer . . . i mean like in the 100's . . . i would let the water run softly from the hose all over the basset hound and she LOVED it. zeke would stand ever on guard a long distance away in case i turned the dreaded WATER on him!
and yet he would walk in the snow and sleet for longer than i could stand it! he simply loved it. buried his face even . . . sniffing something wonderful. a lowland little polish guy for sure. i will miss zeke until my dying day.

My late, lamented Cavalier was that way, as well. Maybe it's the breed? Because the mixed spaniel is just like the PONs.

Kioko doesn't seem to like getting wet at all. He tolerates weather sort of wetness, he wont let some rain deter his love of being outdoors but bath time is dreaded. Many a time I have found myself sprawled out on my tummy shuffling
beneath the bed in order to capture the little escapee.

Maybe they'd prefer a shower?
