The Mountains are calling and I must go.

I ask for two punnets of strawberries. The strawberry lady gives me four. She's done this every day this week. A bumper harvest this year after the rains. Thankfully, Bob and Sophie love strawberries.

Last night the village budget meeting. Farmers, feral children, Jack Russells , all crammed into the Salle des Fetes. Babies cry. Dogs and children wander in and out of the French windows. Everyone talks at once. The mood not helped by the exposure of a scandal in the French Presidents entourage. One of his advisers has been popping into the wine cellar at the Elysee Palace and choosing €600 bottles of fine vintage wine to have with his lunch.

'' That's Socialists for you " says the sour man who disapproves of foreigners. '' All these politicians are the same. Scheming jackasses " adds the Very Old Farmer pointing at the mayor. '' The Very Old Farmer qualifies the word 'politician' with a choice adjective. The lady in the purple hat tells him to mind his language - ' there are children present ! ' . The mayor tries to review the items in the budget. He finally gives up. After two hours of Sturm und Drang we slip out while the Chairman of the Beautiful Village Committee bemoans the price of bedding plants.

'' That was interesting " says 'the font ' with more than a hint of understatement.

As with Bertie's performance at agility shows, the success of your village meetings are surely best judged in terms of their potential for providing entertaining blog material.

Our state Primier just resigned over a $3,000 bottle of wine he forgot he was given...

It's a wonder the mayor and committees didn't follow you home for a debrief and champagne. Perhaps that's tomorrow.

What would we do without our fix of the politics in France Profunde? At least you escaped without being drafted for anything!

I'm sure there are similarities with town meetings in Maine or New Hampshire !

Our town is embroiled in a huge political debate over the construction of a new community center where people have taken to facebook and the media in opposition and support for it--A posting this morning said that the meeting last evening was quote, "a passionate gathering" and a call for the town mayor to resign -- I wonder now if it was like yours but without the dogs.

And probably without an Old Farmer equivalent serving home made wine from a stainless steel tea urn.

Are the kids packing for "camp" (a.k.a. prison)? Whatever will they do with themselves for 24 h a day - without their usual program, routine, property,
morning croissant, gardening chores, home protection, flock protection, kitchen duties, plastering d.i.y., tile reorganizing, hedge trimming, flower
pruning, pilgrim welcoming, and general daily activities! Are they taking toys…….familiar blankets or rugs…….a laptop to receive messages from their errant parents…….can we get in touch with them by email????????????? Oh ANGUS and the FONT…….do return home soon.

Bob and Sophie are so lucky that they can enjoy strawberries...sadly for me I can't do so because of my allergy.
Love the photos through the windows of the angels outside....hope they made the most of the outdoors today since they'll be "kenneled" for the next few days.
Enjoy your trip and hurry back soon.
