Nougat from Montelimar.

Decidedly chill now. We eat dinner outside but both of us wear an extra layer. The year turning to a new chapter. Bob and Sophie are enlivened by the cooler weather. There again they seem to be enlivened by any and everything.

At the market a new arrival - a nougat stall from Montelimar. Bob looks at me expectantly. I explain how expensive dental work is. The Moroccan family with their multi-coloured baskets are standing morosely looking at the passers by. Their migration to warmer climes must be imminent.

Sophie stays at home to prepare roast lamb. 'The font' has started a Mandarin course. This involves making 'mad person' noises into speech recognition software. Sophie seems convinced this bizarre behaviour is for her benefit. Bob heads off with Angus to the Sunday morning rugby match. The local team wander down one half of the pitch and the visiting team amble up the other. The visiting team composed of farmers in their early thirties suffering from what might politely be described as 'a thickening at the midriff '. This does nothing for their speed. Bob says hello to the young fireman and the thick necked gendarme from St.Etienne. He then falls asleep. We buy a lemon meringue pie at the bakers on our way home. He gets some slivers of choux pastry.

Hmmmmmmmmm, we can't tell if the grooming photos are before, after or one of each.

So, Astronomy by night and Mandarin by day for the 'font'? And still time for conjuring up wonderful sounding meals in the kitchen. We are impressed.

I would very much like some of Mme Fonts energy please. Or some of Sophie and Bobs. Either OK. Many thanks.

Are the chaps from St Etienne 'ringers' for you team?

The pie looks luscious though I don't understand the two lemon slice "wheels" with plow handle look. The Font is amazingly multitalented; astronomy, Mandarin, gourmet cooking etc...

The nought looks absolutely irresistible ! I love the stuff, if it's well made, and haven't had it in years!
I'm very envious. A slice of pie would help though.

The nougat sold in slices like that is ever so expensive! We got stung by a seller in Beaune, due to his truthful yet misleading pricing system. We didn't have the French, or the nerve, to say "You must be joking. We're not paying THAT much!" so we paid up and took our gold-dust nougat away. We made it last over several weeks! Mind you...it WAS delicious!
