'' Perhaps ".

The stuffed Christmas boar still exuding seasonal cheer in the supermarket. No seasonal cheer for smokers of e-ciagrettes. A sign has gone up banning them.

The PON's dig. Today it's a hole about twelve inches deep and eighteen inches long in  the lawn under the large oak tree. '' Perhaps they've found the scent of a mole ? " suggests ' The Font ' . '' Perhaps " I reply.  They are told to stop. Both PON's look back . Today is a feigning deafness day. Come to that every day is a feigning deafness day. Why obey the rules when you can live life on the wild side ?

ANGUS - have you ever stopped to consider that the Dynamic Duo may have just shown their TRUFFLE HUNTING SKILLS ! ! ! ! ! ! Fresh truffles are found at this time of year, near the root system of Oak Trees. Their true talents have just been revealed……….tell the FONT to get ready to shave fresh truffles over her pasta, to slip a few slices under the skin of her next roasting chicken, and to be thankful for BOB and SOPHIE!!!!!!!!!
If I am correct on this - be sure and watch them carefully while digging - so that they don't eat any truffles before you can snatch them away! Good luck!

Listening is reserved for those times the humans are close enough to catch you....

That is a most impressive hole. Bertie is impressed. Gail is curious as to whether such enthusiasm for excavation is a known breed characteristic of PONs, thinking it's not something usually associated with the herding types. Bertie, despite being a terrier, is a unenthusiastic digger, which goes to show the dangers of too much stereotyping!

Merlin is rather fond of digging too. Once he gets into the rhythm of the task it is hard to get his attention. The more mud or sand on his nose, the better, in his opinion.

It's more like an Autumnal scene than a winter scene under the oak tree
The saying in our house "There's none so deaf as a dog that doesn't want to hear!" Leah has a particular difficulty with "NO!"

"Perhaps" living life on the wild side should be Sophie's motto...she is surely a character. I would bet you my last dollar that it was she who encouraged Bob to dig the hole..."Come on Bob, let's dig a big hole in the garden and if we are caught we'll just pretend not to hear Mum and Dad when they tell us to stop!!"

I'm thinking truffles too.

I wish feigning deafness worked for me, but it never does!

I was thinking truffles too! You may need to watch a little closer when they start to dig.

Love that last picture: "Who, us?"

It would be wonderful to think we have truffle hounds. Alas, I fear they wouldn't know a truffle if it came and bit them on the nose. They are diggers. A previous PON was called Digby because from an early age it was clear he liked to Dig !!!!

Even then ?

The books say they make wonderful pets for people who live in apartments. This is presumably because there is nowhere for them to dig. What an apartment living PON would do with all that pent up energy doesn't bear thinking about.

Mud and PON's. Is there anything else to say ?

The temperatures have soared again and the frozen ground has turned to sludge. Delightful. The best advert imaginable for cats.

To say they are well is an understatement . They are thriving !

Bob does pretty well at excavating without encouragement !

Ah, if only ....

Yes. What works for PON's doesn't always work for humans !

If there areany truffles Sophie eats them. There again she eats the acorns and the oak leaves and ....
