"Everyone is guilty of the good they did not do ".

The start of the school holidays. The motorway busy with cars heading off to the ski resorts south of Toulouse. Around us the snow rapidly disappearing under the winter sun.

Good news. Earlier in the week the local Post Lady informed all the other factrices that two Goldens had gone missing. Yesterday, the Post Lady three valleys over sees two dogs behind the village church. The French teacher drives over. She spends three hours there. Not a sight nor sound. Something makes her go back again in the afternoon. She looks around for half an hour and then just as dusk falls they appear. The elder bounds over to see her. The second, aware that he's done something wrong, takes a little coaxing to get into the car.

A bottle of Burgundy dropped off to help her celebrate. The restorative effect of the re-union apparent for all to see. A great end to the week.

Bob and Sophie continue to enjoy life with a level of energy that puts their owners to shame.

Wonderful news about the Goldens, just wonderful. What a huge relief. One wonders exactly where they had sheltered?

What wonderful, wonderful news! My husband and I have been praying for a miracle, and on the third day the teacher got hers! We are overjoyed with her.

Huge smiles and much relief - from the Westcoast of Canada!!!!!!! Just like our friend with the long-missing Maine Coon Cat, miracles do happen.
Wonderful that the French teacher returned a second time……..and found her boys. Simply wonderful. Moral - never ever give up. We dog owners understand the agony of this kind of event. The very very worst kind. Thanks for letting us know ANGUS - with such a beautifully worded example
to one of the finer and very best aspects of country life in France.

Wonderful - any dog owner will know that this is the best news! It's an occasion when you wish that they could talk and tell their relieved owner exactly what they have been up to! From the look on Sophie's face, she too is delighted that the Golden's are safely home. That, and someone's just told her she's chief taster for the roast 'The Font' is preparing.

Agree with you on #1 !

As you say - never give up .

They've got cuts around their mouths - nothing serious - but a sign they've been foraging in the bins and learning to lick inside old cans !

Great news. Even better - it was five days away in freezing temperatures and more worryingly four snowy nights ! .

Shows that it's always worth listening to that little voice that tells you to go back and try again .

The French teacher looks ten years younger.

Excellent news. Very happy to hear it. Scotland may well have lost but it's the most competitive I've seen a Scotland team for quite a while.

Great news!! We were hoping for a happy ending... and one happened! Momma just had a feeling they would be found, just like her crazy kitty all those years ago...

HUZZAH! So glad to hear. I was pretending that it didn't matter to me that the two goldens had gone missing - but I knew it did! The tears in my eyes are proof. Village networks are so important.

Oh what GREAT news this morning....I'm so happy that they have been found and that they're okay. Like any lost soul, they found their way to the church....tears of joy and relief are streaming down my face.
" Something makes her go back again in the afternoon".....only a dog owner can understand this.
Angus so thoughtful and kind of you to take over a bottle of Burgundy for her to celebrate, please let her know that we're all happy that they're okay.
I think all your readers are breathing a collective sigh of relief...

Another sigh of relief from the American Midwest. My two Labradoodles have been extra spoiled these past few days as I thought about the missing Goldens.

Your blog is magnificent. Please keep posting.

I'm so happy they are back safe and sound. I'll bet they have a story to tell if they could.

This was my first internet stop today, with bated breath and fingers crossed. Now I'm just crying happily into my keyboard. So glad the Goldens are found.
Hooray for village Post ladies and the country network. And for restorative bottles of Burgundy.

And thank you to the post lady too. Some people wouldn't take the trouble, but her simple gesture made all the difference. So glad they were found.

Never believe politicians who tell you there is no such thing as 'community'.

Good news indeed.

Difficult to say who looked happier - the teacher, the two miscreants or the 14 year old Golden that lay by the front door until they returned .

A story involving foraging in dustbins ! Canine heaven - apart from the lack of treats and tickles and the cold.

To know their fate is one thing. Not to know quite another.

Did they get spoiled with pie ?

What wonderful news. Thanks for the kindness of the postal ladies. And the persistence of the French teacher who didn't give up. I too would look at the dear goldens and ask and ask and ask them to tell me what they'd been up to, how they spent the cold nights, and if they ever ever ever would wander from home again!

Great news, such a relief. If Lulu went missing I would never give up looking for her so I can only imagine the joy the teacher felt on finding them.
Tears of joy here in Derbyshire.

Thanks again for keeping us all posted! This was all the news we were hoping for. (God bless the 14 yr old dog waiting for the return those wild youngsters !) Whew. It does indeed take a village.

As an amateur politician, I totally agree. I was wakened by my husband yesterday morning so I could go early to our election action weekend, with the cry- "they've found the Goldens" (he now reads you assiduously, as well). And our entire political office cheered to hear the news, since they were worrying with you all, too
