Sophie the fig eating PON.

The church clock chimes seven. The only other noise the yodelling song of the wood larks. One of those heavy mornings when it's good to have four legged companions leading the way and lending encouragement. On the path Sophie discovers three over ripe figs. She wolfs them down before I can say '' No ! ". What the effect ripe figs will have on her digestive system we shall discover as the day progresses.

Silence until ten to eight. Then it's the morning rush hour. The school secretary in her new Renault rushes by to supervise the repainting of the classrooms. The man with the garden machinery store heads off in his Mitsubishi in the other direction. The Old Farmer opens his creaky shutters. The mayor drives past towards the town hall, remembers that it's closed for the secretary's holiday, turns the hubcapless Renault in the car park and heads off home. The silence returns.

There are however exceptions to the silence. These come with four paws , look shaggy and are enthusiastic advocates of playing 'throw the furry fox'.

Before Bailey Bob, I shared my life with Ebony, a black Lab and CC, a Shepherd mix also solid black. I had three fig trees in the back yard. I never got any figs, because the birds ate the figs on the tops of the bushes and Ebony and CC would eat the figs from the middle to the bottom of each bush. What was most interesting was the techniques employed by each dog to get the figs. CC hopped on his hind legs snatching figs with every hop. Ebony would get the fig in her mouth, and back up, pulling the entire branch with her until the fig snapped off! How fortunate for Sophie to have found hers already debushed!

Just hoping that Sophie's digestive system stayed silent.

A cast iron constitution. So far at least.

If it's on or near the ground Sophie will get it.

Figs sound safer that Leah's treasure found on her walk...abandoned Rolos! I didn't realise you could still buy them but Leah woofed them down so quick, Sophie would be proud of her!

I just love that second last photo of my two favourite PONs.....love those wet noses and pink tongues.
Sophie should have a good bowel movement after consuming three ripe figs....I suspect she should be okay.
It's amazing what they wolf down in seconds....I'm sure if you had offered her figs she may have turned up her nose.

That's a very resilient furry fox. Or is it not in its first incarnation?

Thank goodness Sophie has a cast iron stomach. Gastro distress wouldn't be fun for dog or human.
Love photo #4. They both look so happy. I've forgotten how big Bob is!

The breeder claims they're brother and sister. No doubting she's pure PON but Bobs long legs give us serious cause to doubt his lineage ! A touch of Wolf Hound ?

There are several of them with varying numbers of limbs. They appear and reappear according to a cycle known only to the PONs.

So far Sophioe's cast iron constitution is holding up just fine.

Rolos ? I thought they disappeared 20 years ago.Well done Leah.

Who cares what Bob's lineage is - he's gorgeous. His long legs are probably just the result of all the walks he gets, and he's bound to be bigger than his sister. He needs to be, to stand up to all that savaging !
No doubt Sophie's little "re-cycling" habit has given her that cast iron stomach.
Thank goodness there is more than one furry fox - the original would have quite a headache by now !!
