' Here it comes ! '

At last ! Rain. Not a lot but some. Our first in seven weeks.

The PONs jump into the car.  They wear that mildly concerned ' Here it comes ! Watch out for my tail ! ' look as the door is closed.

The baker hasn't had a great year with his Buche de Noel. The remaining stock has been sliced into sixths and sold off as individual portions. '' People just don't celebrate any more ". He said the same thing last year. And the year before.

By the time we get back to The Rickety Old Farmhouse the rain has stopped. In the grass along the lane the wild orchids have started to bloom - two, possibly three, months early. Angus's innate Presbyterianism tells him a blast of arctic winter air will arrive any minute now.

Bob entertains himself by leaping over the box hedges with Furry Fox. His idea of leaping means ploughing straight through. This may explain why our box hedges have dog shaped gaps in them.

In the evening Bob and Angus play touch rugby in the upper hall. Sophie is in the kitchen with 'The Font' deciding how much Noilly Prat should go in the prawn risotto.

So passes another day with happy dogs in deepest, deepest France profonde.

How could anyone survive without this ? : https://www.thegrommet.com/sleep-shepherd?utm_campaign=20160102&utm_content=24709&utm_medium=email&utm_source=CC&trk_msg=N4785PLA8GU4P1U19U0V8PHRDS&trk_contact=MSLKVL1GU4FPR5GR50O6T5VOVG

Noilly Prat in the prawn risotto? So that's what's missing in mine ! Sophie does the tasting while Bob works up an appetite in the garden?
Thanks for another good laugh Angus, I know it's supposed to be serious, but the video had me chuckling away. The couple demonstrating have the satisfied look of people who have found a good way to part the gullible from their hard-earned cash.

Oh if only we in the northern half of the UK could be saying "at last, rain".
Bet the prawn risotto was good.

The baker is right about people, and you're right about the blast of arctic air coming from nowhere--It did that here. But I wonder if I'm right about that cap having "causing brain cancer" written all over it?

So how many individual size portions of Buche de Noel did you purchase??
Not so sure I'd want pulses being transmitted to my brain all night long with that grommet sleep cap...reminds me of some kind of mind/brain manipulating gadget....definitely not for me.

Bob and Sophie look READY for a new year in that first photo.

The picture of Bob and Sophie, concerned for the safety of their tails, is adorable!!!

Can I be the only one who wonders about those crackers beneath the tree? How have they managed to stay in one piece with a couple of PONs about?

Wonderful pictures all, though the Buche de Noel is best not lingered upon. The picture of Bob "clearing" the hedge is priceless, as is his role of watchman over the Christmas tree. Your wild orchid perhaps looks much like what we call coltsfoot (Petasites frigidus) in the Pacific Northwest? Early flowers replaced later by large leaves.

Colts Foot also grows here but has yellow dandelion like flowers. The older locals stew the leaves and make a linctus to rub on their chests to quell flu symptoms. It's a surprise that so many of them live to a ripe old age.

They didn't like the taste. One of the few things to fall into that category.

One of the few moments of silence during the day.

Two or three glasses of Pomerol ensure a good nights sleep. Why experiment with something new when the tried and tested method works so well ?

I'm not sure what the reaction would be if I suddenly appeared wearing one.

Angus said...

It was. And you're right about the rain.

Perhaps they've put too much Noilly Prat in their cooking ?
