Satisfying.

The summer torpor has arrived. Nothing stirs in the village.

At The Rickety Old Farmhouse Bob sits at the front door paws out in the sun, rump in the shade.

By late morning even the frogs have given up their battle with the heat and opted for sleep on the water lilly leaves.

Fresh almonds make an appearance in the greengrocer as does ..

rhubarb.

A package arrives. A roll of muslin for the kitchen. It comes in a box and a mass of plastic bubble wrap. Who ever knew muslin needed bubble wrap to protect it ? The PONs spend a happy fifteen minutes bursting the bubble wrap. Bob pounces. Sophie takes it between her paws and bites until it bursts with a very satisfying 'pop' . Different styles. Different characters.

For the PONs the arrival of the bubble wrap has turned this from a good day into the best day ever.

Ooh - bubble wrap - what fun ! And fresh rhubarb - something we really miss here, and that looks absolutely perfect.

It is important always to keep one's rump in the shade…

Looks like a lot of work involved in shelling those fresh almonds, but something tells me they would be
delicious.
Good op-ed piece in today's NYTimes by Roger Cohen on the subject of Brexit.

I think bubble wrap guarantees a best day ever.

There is sadness here as yesterday we laid our border collie Rory to rest. He was the most sweet-natured, gentle, patient dog we have been privileged to know, and very brave in the face of growing disability.

A visit to the Rickety Old Farmhouse this morning was most welcome.

Bubble wrap is a favorite of Otto's :-)

I'm so sorry. It doesn't make it any easier but we've finally and belatedly learnt that family dogs never go away they simply run ahead and wait for us, out of sight, round the next corner.

So sorry to hear about Rory. We hope you have a store of happy memories to console you.

Presumably you don't deal with it in the same way the PONs do !

Thanks for the NYT heads up.

My heart breaks for you. I hope Angus is right and someday we get to see all our beloved dogs once again.
Please try to smile and know that we are all thinking of you. I'm sure because of YOU, Rory had a wonderful life.

It's a gift to be able to be able to enjoy simple things. We humans should take note.

Like Bob, cool places outdoors are becoming harder to find!
