Coming to town.

A scorcher of a day in store. The angelic duo, sensing it's going to be a warm one, are up before six for their morning walk while it's still cool.

Too hot for the PONs to join us on our shopping run in the car. They stay at home when we head off. Bob and Sophie have taken this change to their routine as well as can be expected. A half carrot from the chiller helps them adjust.

On the street facing the prefecture workmen are suspending a large yellow cyclists jersey between two buildings. The Tour de France ois coming to town. I now understand why the ice maiden in the orange cardigan was able to find an appointment for my Carte de Sejour so quickly. I'm booked in on Thursday at exactly the time the first riders are due to cross the finish line. All the parking bays in a mile radius have been suspended and a tight security cordon has been thrown up around the old town. The chances of my making it through the crowds and the police to the scheduled interview are exactly nil.

As solace we head off to the bakers. Or, to be more precise, I head off to the bakers.

On the way home we see that they're hanging enormous Tour de France jerseys from the parapets on the old medieval bridge .

Thursdays appointment has been cancelled and  new one scheduled for August.

Let's hope these guys have a good day : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f0qZJhWNmE

It's proving a good Tour for the British sprinter Mark Cavendish - two wins out of three so far - yesterdays by 6 milliseconds! How I would love to see him whizz past. Cheers, Gail.

The ice maiden is probably gnashing her teeth in frustration that you got away when she had so cleverly set a trap for you.
I'm trying to decide whether to watch the tour from the safety of an upstairs window or to step out to the side of the road. Probably roadside for the sponsor parade that passes ahead of the cyclists (wouldn't want to miss having little cheeses and sausages thrown at me), and we'll see about the guys on the bikes.

Perhaps you should have just camped out!

You are so lucky. I would love to see a Tour de France pass by. The Pons would probably be happy to join me if the sponsors do indeed throw cheese and sausages at the spectators though it may first be prudent to ask what Sophie thinks of cyclists? The astute ice maiden in orange is probably pleased you cancelled because she will now be able to get cheese and sausages.

Should have added I am watching it on TV as I type!

Tarte Framboise for me, please, Angus.
I think the PON's are in the right place. We were out for our walk at 6:30 a.m. and it was very warm and still - not a breath of wind and not a soul about. Now the dogs are crashed out and sleeping, but at the mere rustle of a food bag, they'll come running !

We are in full swing watching the Tour in our house. Being avid cyclists, this makes our hearts happy and we get to see a bit of the beautiful country as well!

Just thought Angus - isn't France on holiday in August? Isn't everywhere closed?

The new appointment has been confirmed online. What could go wrong ?

I'll have one of everything, Thank You. Oh, those baked goods!
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Doesn't everything grind to a halt in August?
And how could you utter those fateful words "What could go wrong". Now you've gone and done it!
