Theologically incorrect .

Our third day of showers after last weeks oppressive heat . You know you've become your father when you find yourself saying 'the garden needs the rain'.  Bob enjoys his morning walk along the top of the ridge to the storm drain. We discuss last nights terrorist attack in Nice. We'd been warned to watch out for car bombs but this 2 kilometre trail of carnage was unexpected. The mood in the country is tense as people come to terms with the fact that there are those who are trying to stir up a guerre civile

By seven thirty we're in the car and en route  to the supermarket.

On the shelves of the wine section a luridly coloured pink bottle. Its name matches the packaging : 666 Secret of the Devils. Angus wonders why devils are plural rather than singular. He always thought there was one devil but many demons. This blog writer is always suspicious of wine that is in opaque bottles. The eye searing colour and the theologically doubtful name don't tempt him into trying it.

It had to happen. Sophie misplaces 'Lamb'. Bob finds it. His patience has been amply rewarded. A ten minute high speed chase ensues. Sophie lets her brother, and the village, know that she wants her dou-dou back. Bob, like all males, feigns deafness. 'Lamb' has lost half an ear and a portion of its mouth. Apart from that it's holding up remarkably well.

Peach tart time. Sophie spends much of Bastille Day evening in the kitchen monitoring the oven. A little pastry goes a long way to compensating for an oaf of a brother who steals your toy.

A day that has left France stunned. The purpose of human life is goodness. You sometimes need reminding of that.

ANGUS - your photos #2 and #4 are not posted (just a black square).......today of all days we need to see your cheering photographs!
Here on the Westcoast of Canada - the horrible images in Nice have been filling the television screen nonstop for the past hours.....'live' as it
happened. If there was ever a day for a brand new dou dou for Sophie - this is the day! We need more happy celebratory days......
more true than ever. Enjoy the Peach Tarte - it looks glorious.

Hope it's sorted now.

We went to bed before the events in Nice unfolded, so it was a terrible shock to read the news this morning. Our thoughts are with you all - what a horrific tragedy, and once again it seems that France has been singled out.
Good to be able to raise a smile at the wine label, and share Bob's antics with Sophie's Lamb ! It's no good, you'll have to buy him one of his very own (with a tracker device?). That peach tart looks very tasty.

What a beautiful picture of Bob up on the ridge. I heard the dreadful news from Nice last night having just spent the evening (with Bertie) sat outdoors as part of a large crowd in Duthie Park watching a live relay of 'Il Trovatore' from Covent Garden. So easy to imagine the Nice attack being replicated elsewhere. My thoughts are with all victims of terrorism, direct and indirect this morning. Let's hope certain clown like politicians in the UK can rise to the seriousness of the situation.

Shocking news about Nice. We fail to understand the motivation of these people, how they are trying to disrupt and destroy a country that has given them a better life.

Love the dogs chasing each other to take hold of the lamb. What characters.

We went to the fireworks in Carcassonne, and I feared something might happen. But it was the loveliest crowd experience. Everybody so civil and polite. The show spectacular. I didn't even fear a pickpocket among these gentle folk, who seemed to include all races and many nationalities. I thought, how silly to have been worried. The people in Nice probably thought the same thing. Tyranny struck on the day France celebrates its liberation from tyranny.

Such devastating news we awoke to here. You are correct in saying one devil but many demons. And that pink bottle is proof. Yikes what a color! Hopefully the dou-dou will be back in Sophie's possession before lunch time.

Hard to find the words to describe these terrible attacks. Thinking of you as you shoulder these heavy thoughts and feelings.

I have a faint recollection of taking medicine as a child of a similar colour. I doubt the wine tastes much better.
Having broken down Weds evening in Northern France on our trip to the South, I am spending a lot of time in the hotel listening to this terrible news. The atmosphere here is sombre. Wonderful picture of an indignant Sophie trying to catch brother Oaf.

You know you're becoming your mother when you ask, in complete seriousness, "What's this world coming to?" Thank God for dogs, beautiful desserts and the goodness of the human spirit.

Thank you for you daily doses of civilty, frivolity, beauty, and kindness. Keep good courage, and enjoy the peach tarte with a lovely sparkling wine:) Slivers of tarte to Bob and Sophie! There is more in this world good than bad.

Our hearts are very sad, once again, for France.

The top picture of Bob is glorious. And Sophie chasing Bob and Lamb is a best-ever picture! The reference to males feigning deafness was much appreciated.

Reminds one of those cheap-wine University days! Perhaps the makers think there are 666 devils....

My heart breaks for all those who have lost their precious lives in this horrific incident....couldn't believe the news....so sad.

The only thing necessary for evil to flourish is that good men do nothing or so the quote says. What can we do here, now? Feeling very helpless and frightened here. How do we stop this?
Peach tarte! A little would go a long way with me also.

There are those who would love the government to crack down on 'incomers'. That is of course the response that the terrorists would love. Discrimination would generate an army of new recruits .

A dou-dou of his own would soon be neglected. It could never ne as interesting as his sisters toy.

I too have a recollection of a similar coloured medicine when I was 4. Thankfully, the memory of it and the taste have largely gone from my mind.
