Beggars belief.

Second day without the cast. Not one but two soft collars stop Miss Sophie from biting her stitches. The irritation is clearly driving her crazy. An antiseptic lotion rubbed in morning and evening is supposed to help - but doesn't. She can now do all those things that need to be done - unaided. Hallelujah!

Activity in the village . The beautiful weather has brought out a group of visitors who carefully park their cars and wander across the village green to look at the swaying Jesus. They leave after three minutes. Perhaps they expected the statue to sway to order.

Bob has long walks, trips into town in the car , lengthy Mano a Mano's and a fishing expedition to the waterfall.

His sister dozes.

On one of our outings to the hardware store dog and master stop to read the menu in the new pizza restaurant .What the French can do to pizza beggars belief. Angus is rather taken with the Cannibale - ham , chicken, duck and minced meat. Bobs tastes run more to the Indienne - topped with chicken curry, creme fraiche and cheese.

Coincidence. The FT leads with a story that the new Treasury Secretary is to be Steve Mnuchin. Five minutes later an e-mail pops into the inbox from the Mnuchin Gallery in NYC http://www.mnuchingallery.com/exhibitions/sean-scully

What are the chances of that ?

Bertie and I are wondering how fast Sophie's fur grows? What is the length on her rear left leg now?
The pizza menu looks like an attempt to cover every possibly international taste!
Cheers,
Gail.

Sophie is one very determined young lady - may she continue to improve by leaps and bounds !
Personally I'd stand well clear of the swaying Jesus, just in case it decided to sway that bit too far. Oh, and thank you, I'll pass on the pizzas !

The fur is growing back very slowly. The area of the September operation covered in 5mm fuzz. Her fur elsewhere grows at a supercharged rate. Can anyone think of a reason why the shaved areas grow so slowly and the non-shaved areas area turbo-charged ?

Our problem is keeping an eye on her. That 'eyes in the back of your head ' skill set employed by parents of 18 month olds is rediscovered.

The pictures of Sophie break my heart. Her leg where the cast was removed, tearing skin in the process, & how she endured the pain. Wish I could kiss her on her head, sit in the floor and read stories to her. Please tell her she has friends around the world that will be so thrilled, when she can safely run around the garden and play!

She had her front walk to the front gate this morning to say hello to the six year olds waiting for the school bus. Her joy knew no bounds !

Thanks, interesting. When Bertie's shoulder was shaved after his injury a few years ago, the furs grew back rather quickly I thought, so I've no idea why Sophie's should be different.

Itching is awful. The New Yorker had a great story about itching (it was in 2008! Time flies!): http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2008/06/30/the-itch
Good luck. I hope the wound heals quickly, the stitches come out, and Sophie can get some relief.

A look at Sophie's leg makes me wince. Relief from the itching can't come too soon. The dozing Sophie picture tugs at the heart.

It's so hard to observe their discomfort. And PONs are so adept at giving award winning guilt inducing performances. Merlin actually stormed off in a huff last night because he didn't get the last drop of ice cream. We were crying with laughter.
Might aloe vera or tea tree (dog formula) be soothing? Merlin can reach his itchy stitches with his back paw, so a cone isn't helping. He's currently sporting one of Stuarts t-shirts, modified for 'convenience'.

Can you buy Cortisone cream in France over the counter? It's easily available in the States. and we use it for all itchy problems on humans and dogs alike. It will probably soothe some of those raw spots too.
A quick check on Google reveals that the Mnuchin Gallery was indeed founded by our next Treasury Secretary.

This might be due to shaving. Undercoat needs the overcoat to grow, and overcoat has trouble growing when there's no undercoat. Also Overcoat grows very slowly. My PON used to scratch her withers, but her hair is not as long or dense in these areas as it used to be. She scratches much less but it didn't grow back. Hopefully Sophie's hair will grow out. She might also need zinc and fish oil in her diet to help the fur grow.

That is a nasty strip of inflamed tissue . Rather uncomfortable. Sometimes anything but the blandest of topicals actually irritate the skin and produce a chemical burning of the skin.
Loved seeing the x-ray. That is some appliance Sophie has there. Please hug her for us. All our love.

Sophie is now the proud owner of two titanium knees.

God Bless Sophie! Itching usually means healing ... so happier times are ahead! I agree, the picture in her bed is heartbreaking, but very, very soon things will improve for all. With 2 Titanium knees you may need to change her name to SUPER DOG!!!
Thank you for my morning start.

Poor darling Sophie! Love the X-ray - I hope she won't set bells off if she goes through airport security! Give her a cuddle from her canine pals on the Canadian prairies. Bob's silent wonderings will hopefully be alleviated soon once Sophie gets back on her feet.

I had the same thought about our diva setting off the alarm bells as she sauntered through airport security! Bless the brave little girl. My heart aches to see her raw skin and hope the itching will soon stop and we can all say Hallelujah! (This is not Leonard Cohen, but interesting, I think.)

I'll be glad when she is all well!

Thank you for telling us of Sophie's walk. I know the children were happy to see her too!!!

Poor Sophie! That looks irritating. My Shelties' fur always grew back slowly too when shaved. Probably due to the double coat growth cycle as well as stress from the procedures.

Hearing that Sophie had a walk to see the children warmed my heart. Is there a tonic you can give Bob to take the edge off...not quite slipping him a Mickey, but something herbal such as given for thunder fright? He is SO worried!
Our dog Hannah had a hip implant and a couple of years later, when she had passed and was cremated, we were given her ashes plus a lovely packet with her titanium hip wrapped with a bow. I guess I figured it would be in her ashes and I was a bit startled. It was a laugh/cry moment :)
Angus, how many small humans did you raise to train those eyes behind your head ? :)

Love to Bob and Sophie

Oooouuuuccchh. That looks like it would be itchy. Is Sophie taking any meds? There's always Benadryl for itches, plus it knocks them out! Of course, it has the opposite effect on the terrier..makes him hyper. How is bob? Still drooling?

A news story this afternoon tells me that our Treasury secretary apparently-to-be once helped foreclose on the house of a 90-year-old woman because she made a payment that was short 27 pennies. Nice.
