3 items.

Angus is away talking to Chinese men in dark suits.

Back in the village the Sapeurs-Pompiers show up at the Old Farmers door. He's woken from the anaesthetic and is worried about:

1) Whether he's left the gas on
2) Whether the doors have been closed by the Belgian lady
3) Whether his two cats have got locked inside the garage

The Sapeurs-Pompiers check on all three items then leave the keys with 'The Font'. Such is the pace of life in deepest, deepest France profonde.

How reassuring to know that, it necessary, the "authorities" will check to put your mind at rest. Sending good wishes to the Old Farmer, we hope he will soon be back home again.

Well done those Sapeurs Pompiers. Clearly well equipped for firefighting in both the literal and the metaphorical sense!

Thank you for the post. Good to know the Old Farmer is still making things happen, even from his hospital bed! Um, since you have been presented with 'the keys', that would mean you are now on cat duty?

Good luck! I was a bit worried when this morning's post disappeared. Give a gros bisous to the Old Farmer!

If you come home smelling of cats it could be a problem 😊

What a lovely thing for the Sapeurs-Pompiers to do. I am sure that the old Farmer will feel much better knowing that the Font and the PONS are now in control of the cats. I must say that this speaks volumes of the people who live at ROFH.

How nice that the Sapeurs-Pompiers could set the Old Farmer's mind at ease. They are a remarkable organization.
Does "woken from the anaesthetic" mean that the OF has had his surgery, and that he will be up and about in due time?

So sorry to hear about your 85 yr. old neighbor...I hope for the best for him and glad he has good neighbors as you and your wife.

Angus, I doubt you remember this but quite a long time ago I wrote you here because I was following Wilf and Digby and my dog, Bosley looked so much like Wilf. I'm in North Carolina, if that jogs any memory. I had told you that Bosley resembled Wilf so much and wondered if Bosley was related to a PON. We don't know because he is a rescue. Anyway, I haven't checked back for a very long time and when I began reading to catch up, I discovered your stories of Sophie's legs. Irony of ironies. Bosley, who is now 11 yrs. went lame in his back left leg last September, all of a sudden on a walk. The vet told us it was a torn ACL and sent us to the surgeon for the metal plate and the same regimen of rehab that you are going through with Sophie. They told us that since this happened to one leg, the other back leg is likely to suffer the same fate. Sure enough, after rehabbing the back left leg and doing pretty well, the first week of January the back right leg collapsed with the same affliction! Darn!! So back to the surgeon and now we are a month out from that and walking slowly and rehabbing again. We were fortunate that we had one leg at a time, instead of having both go at once as Sophie's did. That had to be extremely difficult! It has been quite expensive, too! I told the surgeon he must guarantee another 30 or 50 yrs. out of Bosley to justify this surgery! (just kidding of course.) I'd upload a picture or two for you, but don't know how to do that here.

I'm glad to catch up and read your stories again. And glad Bob and Sophie are doing well, too...the droopy eye...and Sophie's legs.

All the best....
Smiles,
Cheryl

What a caring and generous group of people inhabit the SW of France - may the Old Farmer's recovery be swift and complete. Do you think Angus could be sent to sort out the Suits in America after he's done the Chinese? We would all appreciate it!

Hi . Good to hear from yo again. Sorry to hear about Bosley. Glad he's making such good progress. If there's one thing that helped us through this it was getting a help em up harness. It's made in the US and were we told about it by Kim at Golden Pines. It makes getting a dog onto his legs without stressing the repair simple and easy. Good luck. Please keep us posted !

How kind. Unbelievably kind. I live in the country. I called an ambulance the week before Christmas when I stepped in a small hole while walking the dag and was sure I'd broken my right ankle. The extremely nice ambos told me there was a 95% chance it was just a bad sprain and so I didn't get to ride with them to the hospital. Probably needless to say it was broken but the point of this story is that I got a bill 4 weeks later from the ambulance service for $380.

I did see that terrific harness and read your reports on that. I wish they had recommended it for us. I'll look into it! We could still use it, since we are just part way through the second rehab. Thanks! Life with our sweet dogs.....

And thank you for your wonderful writing that is so interesting and enjoyable!
