What a night.

What a storm. Shutters ripped off their hinges. The old cherry trees in the orchard decimated. The olive trees flattened.  A sleepless night as the gale batters the ridge. Unlike their master the PONs show no sign of having been kept awake by the gale. They aren't bothered. Rule #1 of a dogs life : There's no such thing as bad weather.

In the morning Bob stands on his stump seat and watches the (limited) traffic passing along the lane.  The strong wind gives him an aerodynamic look. You'd think he might get bored just standing there but not a bit of it. Rule #2 of a dogs life : If you're patient enough something highly exciting might happen in just a minute.

Angus observes that the driveway is blocked by a large, very old, fallen cherry. He makes a mental note to call the gardener, the builder, the insurance company and the joiner. Humans see chaos, the PONs see things to be carefully sniffed and explored. Rule #3 of a dogs life : Today will almost certainly be the best day ever.

So starts a Tuesday morning in deepest, deepest France profonde with two inquisitive companions.

In the face of such a storm, it would be hard to adopt a PON-like attitude. To the owner of a large and rickety old farmhouse, there most definitely is such a thing as bad weather...

My goodness - what a night you've had, but thank goodness there is no injury to yourselves or the PONs. We hope that those around you are also safe. The PON's will have a very, very, best day ever if all those you've called show up !
Oh dear - if the drive is blocked, that means there will be no illicit slivers of croissant this morning....

Oh dear Angus, so sorry to hear about the storm damage at the ROF...thank goodness the family is safe and sound.
Hope the repairs and tree removal doesn't prove to be too costly.
Bob and Sophie will definitely enjoy themselves today smelling all the new scents that the storm has uncovered.
Stay safe.

We live windswept Bob. What a good boy guarding the property.

That was a serious storm then!
Leah loves the wind, I think it must bring additional smells to be sniffed

So thankful none of the fallen trees were on the house. We awoke one morning to uprooted trees, and tops of trees twisted off,and bending other trees to the ground. A tornado had touched down in our lower back yard. We were fortunate compared to some of our neighbors. My heart goes out to you, and your neighbors. Bob looks like the sleeker model of PONS for 2017!

I'm going to adopt Bob's philosophy of life!

How awful. The wind seems to have calmed a little, but not the rain. I thought it was going to be the end of the world. The river next to our house was about knee-deep yesterday afternoon. Today it is about 5 meters, almost over the bridge. We left while the roads were still open. Two hiils away, the rains was but a sprinkle, and in town it's nothing. No idea what we will find tomorrow.

So sorry about the trees, but glad the ROF and inhabitants are safe.
Aerodynamic Bob is quite sleek.

Bob looks very streamlined. It would be hard to top the first picture.
Millie definitely thinks thunder and lightning count as bad weather.
The old cherry tree is a sad loss.

Dreading to discover what destruction I might discover upon my return; no emails from our French neighbour, so very much hoping that no news is good news! Hoping that the damage isn't too serious at the ROF.

There will be no shortage of firewood.

Maybe there will be a stump seat (or ramp up to Bob's gate viewing platform height) made for Sophie from the fallen cherry tree!

Oh that picture of Bob's windswept face - put a smile on my face today! I hope things get sorted and the wind settles.

That uprooted tree looks like a strange creature lying on its side. Definitely needs to be sniffed.

Love Bob's windblown look.

Just re-reading some posts from The Rickety Old Farmhouse blog. Bob and Sophie Were SO cute! And I'd forgotten that The Diva was once shy and hid behind her brother! What ever happened to the young farmer who lived near the windmill who brought you asparagus and strawberries?

or, if Angus or someone nearby is handy with woodworking tools, use the cherry wood to make something. It's lovely wood when used that way.
