Almost PON weather.

Seven am and the sun just coming up. The air is fresh, the sky clear, the ground dry. All pretty good hints that today is going to be the best day ever. Sophie watches the sun rise . Last night she was out until ten staring at the moon and the stars and passing owls. Bob would never be found out alone after dark. His place is inside with his flock. Sophie is much more independent.

Sophie is soon joined by her brother. They check the boundaries of the garden not once, not twice but three times. Only then, after ensuring that all is well do they pause for a game of throw the Furry Fox. It's decidedly cooler now - almost PON weather. We walk to the end of the ridge and say good morning to the donkeys, the horses and the goat. Bob and Angus sit on the storm drain and put the world to rights. This morning the school secretary rushes by in her little Renault followed by the German and maths teachers. School starts tomorrow but the teachers start work today.

The little tike who rattles a stick across the railings has that glum look that is peculiar to young males whose freedom is about to be curtailed. He and his brother roar off on their motor bikes. For some of us the new term can't come a moment too soon.

It's going to be a perfect day.

Just the sound of the traffic on the departmental indicates it's the rentrée. All summer, the morning rush hour has been subdued, but today it's swooshing at full tempo.
Vacation is over.

What lucky PONs - there are very few days that aren't the best day ever.
Distressing to read the article about puppy farms.

A day that started out perfect for the PONS, ends with their going to the K-E-N-N-E-L....

No surprise to me about the "puppy farms," it's something I've known about for a very long time. I just wish that more people would educate themselves about where that "cute puppy" they are buying is coming from.
