Politely decline.

The electricians show up at eight to repair the electrical cables the builders inadvertently damaged. '' We'll need to lay a new cable to the barn. The old one's shorting out " says the chief honcho in a jaunty tone of voice. Laying a new cable means digging up the driveway. This is something the PONs find fascinating.

To enable the electricians to excavate 'unhindered' we head off to the cheese mongers.

By the time we get to the bakers Bob and Sophie have decided this is the best day ever. A mechanical digger, mud, morose lads to Throw Furry Fox , slivers of cheese and now choux pastry crumbs. All this and it's not even nine thirty.

The baker is making chocolate Christmas Tree decorations. Each branch weighed down with tiny marzipan baubles. They are intricate, delicate and eye wateringly pricey. We politely decline.

Back at home 'The Fonts' hard drive dies. The computer signals its unhappiness by starting to 'click' uncontrollably. The young lady in Bangalore who is called on to sort it out is not hopeful.

Bob spends his evening in the kitchen observing 'The Font' make a chicken curry. There is nothing on the planet that exudes happiness like a PON supervising the preparation of dinner.

Just another day with two happy dogs in deepest, deepest France profonde.

Tomorrow the tree will go up. It should have been up already but the lights have been lost. Each year they are put away in a place in the cellar so obvious they couldn't possibly be overlooked. Hmmm.

And here's something that's as Scottish as it gets to hum along to : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evMruRh-Hxk

  1. We think that Bob and Sophie are conspiring with the builders, morose lads, and the mechanical digger driver - how else could there be so many best days ever? Add to that joy overload at the bakers and Bob supervising dinner preparations - this must be planet Heaven!

    1. PONs take their enjoyment wherever they find it.

  2. When one thinks back to the number of times when building works have necessitated digging up the ROF garden over the past few years, one realises how the Angelic Duo might have got the idea that garden excavation is an acceptable activity…
    Cheers, Gail.

    1. Of course no one has ever thought of leaving a plan showing where pipes and cables might be buried. Whenever anything goes wrong living in The Rickety Old Farmhouse akin to living in an archaeological dig.

  3. Did the kitchen's colouring come first, or did the dogs bedding set the tone?

  5. Please let Mme. Font know that I love my Mac. Two and a half years without a problem, and the old laptop I've had since 2008 and it works wonderfully. By the way, did the morose lad ever buy the little convertible?

  6. Another enjoyable video! And at least you found your lights, I practically tripped over ours all summer, and now I've no idea of the obvious place I put them so they wouldn't be overlooked...
