Yesterday, Bob got six walks, two trips in the car and a long Mano a Mano on the garden table. Seems that canine anxiety cannot be dispelled by displacement activity. The bond between brother and sister is clearly very deep. He knows she's in pain so perhaps his symptoms are stress related.
Sophie was wonderfully 'regular' on Wednesday and Thursday. This was not the case on Friday.
She let 27 hours pass before letting anything else pass. Early in the morning Sophie announces that 'this is the time'. She howls. PONs are not big dogs but their lungs must take up 90% of their body. ' Look on the bright side ' says 'The Font ' at 1.40 am. ' At least she let us know '.
Thursday was wet, Friday was cloudy but today is brilliant sunshine. Being able to sit outside will hopefully make the reestablishment of a routine easier for her.
Bob paddles in the waterfall, fishes ineptly for minnows and finds some badger poo. Sophie sleeps. Things are once again on the up.
Maybe doggie innards are affected by anesthesia in the way that human innards can be.

The sooner she's off the medication the happier we'll all be. They knock her out. The good news is Sophie views the antibiotics as if they're candy !

ReplyDeleteI wonder if all this extra activity for Bob is part of the reason he's drooling? He knows his sister is in pain, and her leg is bandaged, but do could it be that he thinks you are deliberately taking him away from keeping an eye her? After all, his role in the house is that of guardian of his flock, and when he's home he keeps a constant eye on her. Might I suggest you try a day or two of your normal pre-op routine, so that he can spend more time looking after the invalid?
Sadly, he's just going to learn to be an onlooker until the leg has healed. Sophie, given the chance, would be savaging her brother and putting her leg in all sorts of contorted positions.
DeleteI do hope things continue to be 'regular' and Sophie's pain lessens quickly. Poor Bob, what a difficult time he's had. May each day be easier than the last.

ReplyDeleteRegularity is such an important thing. Something vets don't tell you about. If there's a routine then you just know that everything else is on the mend.

DeleteMaybe Bob should be in Sophie's company. He'll be with her as the discomfort lessens and she becomes more herself. A reassurance on a special wavelength beyond words.
