Sophie doesn't want lunch. This is the first time she's ever refused food. We always used to joke that we'd know she was ill if she wouldn't eat. By five pm she's out of it, her eyes yellow, her breathing laboured. She is rushed to the vets . Although it's near closing time he, and the team, spend an hour and a half with her.
After blood tests the prognosis is 50-50. Her TB ( Total bilirubin ) should be between 0 and 8.8. It's 147!
She spends the night in the surgery on a drip.
This morning more will be known about the reason(s) for the sudden deterioration. We are told 'decisions' may need to be taken. The vet understands that our agreement with her is clear and simple - no pain. He says he can guarantee that for her but not for us.
I like our vet.
It is very hard to find words of comfort; perhaps words of understanding will suffice. A good life, and a good end, are all we can ask for. I hope, with all my heart, that she continues her very good life.

ReplyDeleteDAMN! worst news of the day! I googled all I could, looking for some optimism. So sorry, our favorite Diva pooch suddenly on a metal table with a hose in her somewhere, I do hope and hope and hope that she pulls through.

This cannot be. With all my power, I'm willing Sophie to get well, and sending love and strength to Angus and the Font. Never have I wished more just to be reading about the croissant score, the walk through the village and a comment on a conversation with men in dark suits.

ReplyDeleteLike everyone else, I pray Sophie recovers. She enjoys her life way too much to leave at this time. I read a story a few years ago about a female golden retriever who ate something poisonous. She became deathly ill. I think her family ended up taking her to University of Pennsylvania Veterinary College. Their dog was very sick but after about three weeks of aggressive treatment, she began to recover. She went on to a full recovery. I don’t know if your vet could possibly consult with the college if Sophie does not seem to improve quickly.

Setting up a new blog reader yesterday and a google search for your blog brought up images of Bob and Sophie when you first got them. I reflected fondly on their adventures and the sadness of losing Bob - so today it is a terrible shock to see the gorgeous Sophie like this - and with my vet hat on, concern that she is lying on a table with no supervision....which also says she must be very unwell that no one expects her to fall off. For the fourth time we weep for a little dog in deepest France that we all love so much - and her beloved owners. No pain - we know you will do the right thing if you have to but hoping so much for a full recovery and more dandelions as soon as possible xxx
