Swathes of suddenly in bloom wild flowers lining the path that runs along the edge of the cliffs by the castle. Today there's a hint of soon to burn off sea mist . Down below on the shore a few late to bed students can be seen by the rock pool. They've been out all night celebrating. The occasional shriek can be heard from up here as the braver of them ventures into the North Sea waters.
The kitchen fitter promised to take down the garden hut this week. An e-mail arrives saying ' An unexpected scheduling conflict has arisen '. It might be fair to say that relations with the kitchen firm are 'problematic'. The good news is that all the other tradesmen are brilliant . I shall see if any of them can turn their hand to garden hut demolition. The bathroom fitters are on track to finish on schedule by Friday and the conservatory and garden room builders are due to start next week. We shall put the kitchen on hold until after they're finished.
Is "an unexpected scheduling conflict has arisen" secret code for "we don't want to do the job"?

Both the wild flowers and the roses are spectacular this morning. Over here, we will theoretically be done with all the major renovation work by the end of this week, other than the windows that will not be replaced by the temperamental window guy until July, by which time we will theoretically have moved all the packing boxes away from the windows. It seems there's always one . . .

ReplyDeleteI swear I, too, can smell those flowers! And having had yet another workman fail to appear after supposedly arranging the fixing of ceilings, I despair at the total lack of interest in actually working that seems to reign among Scotland's tradesmen... YAM xx
That they now communicate by email says to me that they're too embarrassed to ring you. They're hopeless, and that's so annoying when you just want the job done properly. I hope you have held back a large proportion of their bill, until things are sorted.

Flowers are beautiful. Sounds as if the house is coming along nicely. I am, once again, about to return to the Crumbly Old Convent in France, with 3 dogs and a cat in tow this time. After 23 years we finally have the time to do all those jobs outstanding for far too long. Not sure my joints are happy about the prospect. The plan is then to sell and probably return to The Borders. I miss my wee cottage and those wild Cheviots.
