Calm seas and gentle breezes.

Still no rain although there's a scattering of high cloud and a gentle breeze from the East. The farmers  irrigation system is hard at work in the potato field. It's a modern affair with a small engine and a GPS unit. This enables it to wander back and forth along the drills to make sure that every corner of the field gets the right amount of moisture.

In the farm shop car park a Tesla owner has found a way of pre-empting criticism.

The first corn of the year appears on the shelves.

The farm shop also has a nice little side line in flowers .

The harbour as calm as a mill pond. The fishermen went out in the half darkness at three and have already returned and  unloaded their catch. They're sitting on deckchairs on the quayside shooting the breeze while they repair their lobster creels. Their sea dogs sleep beside them.

When we get back home there's a visitor waiting  in the back garden. A welcoming Jacobs Cream Cracker is stared at before it's eaten. The farmers wife is down on the beach for a morning swim along with a group of ladies from the bridge club and their dogs. Every so often we catch the distant sound of laughter wafting up from the shore.

We've given up on trying to keep the grass green. Despite the best efforts of the lawn sprinkler it's now looking very parched. The church elder says there is talk that a hosepipe ban will be introduced next week.

It is not , as you might be able to tell, a busy day.

Japanese monkeys are very clever at this sort of thing - I wonder if you encountered any on your trip. Japanese deer are also very manipulative but not as smart as the monkeys. Puppy, of course, is at the top of the chain of animal dealmakers.

Lisa, I replied to your swallows question in the last post. What you're hearing shrieking are swifts, not swallows.

Thank you, Linda, I missed your response yesterday, but you're absolutely right, what we are seeing (and hearing) are swifts.

Another delightful day, in paradise.

Oh, fresh corn! Such a taste of summer. What a lovely day to stroll around the town and then be greeted by Puppy on your return home.

Winter has returned. After a week of lovely spring weather I woke up to 5c wind chill 1c. At least we missed the frost as my flowering crab apple tree is about to bloom. From the north shore of Lake Ontario.

Yeah Puppy!
I now have to go soak my fingers and see the results...oh dear, what science makes us do.
Sharon, we share your pain. Weather forecast here in TO calls for 10C max and rain for the next 3 days. Unofficial start of Summer, ha!
