Another trip in the car. This time to the vets. Bob and Sophie's paperwork - vaccination certificates, pet passport, chip details - all in order. They briefly meet the chief vet who gives them a quick once over. Both take this in their stride.
The post lady comes with the parcels from America. She apologizes for taking nearly a week to deliver them. '' My vans giving me problems. They're thinking of getting me a new Fiat ". Two very chic toile squeaky bones from Pamela ( www.fromthehouseofedward.blogspot.com ) and a book on helping a shy dog adjust to new surroundings from Kim (www.lifeatgoldenpines.blogspot.com ) . Thank you both .
For Bob and Sophie an afternoon spent chasing each other round the garden. Endless tugs of war with an old toy they find on the lower terrace. House training ( touch wood ) settled. Nipping under control. They are revelling in each others company and quite simply loving every second of every minute of every hour. Life is brimming over .
House trained so quickly! How did you do it?

ReplyDeleteBoth book and advice much appreciated. Now if you have anyhting to say about the rather unseemly issue of Sophie's Coprophagia. It must be something to do with being brought up on a fram .
DeleteNot always...not to reveal any names, but he with the one ear up and one down has been known to enjoy the unseemly snack.
DeleteVirginia C is right about the worming--But if it continues I've known people who have had success in stopping this behavior by adding a spoonful (I would suggest a small spoon for both puppies) of canned pineapple or a teaspoon of spinach to their meals, it changes the "flavor" and would make it unappetizing for Sophie. But if you'd rather not add anything to their food to avoid possible stomach upset, (understandable) you can also make the waste unappetizing by sprinkling it with hot sauce, lemon juice or anything your girl may find distasteful--Helping her to learn that it's not a "good and tasty thing" and leave it alone.

Angus, so glad that Bob and Sophie have been given the double thumbs at by the vet. Once Sophie's worm medicine kicks in, she should get past her coprophagia.
ReplyDeleteThe old toy must have been quite a treat when they found it...the scent of another dog would have them all excited. They are surely enjoying that Monkee. I hope Bob shared with Sophie afterwards.
House training...settled....that's a world record.
Visited both of the highlighted blogs, only to find that poor Kim had just lost her beloved Lucas...so sad.
Cat roca seems irresistable to our pup. The good news is that the staff now clean the box out 3-4 time a day and have it so cat can access it, but pup cannot--so far. If the coprophagia remains a problem, there is a powder you can put in dog's food that makes end result less taste appealing.

As to house breaking, Edward was in charge of that for Apple and he managed the issue brilliantly!
I have a feeling that Sophie is going to turn out to be the pistol in this package! They make me feel a little tired with all that running around. I'm glad they're settling in so well!

ReplyDeleteMy middle dog Emma has eaten my other dogs' feces every day of her life since I found her 10 1/2 years ago; I gave up trying to cure it or worrying about it at some point. She's healthy as a horse at age 11, takes no meds for any health issues, looks fabulous, and bounces around like a youngster; I figure it can't be TOO bad for her :)
