A ministering angel shall my sister be.

Harvest heat. Our first hundred degree day of the year. Breakfast eaten in the shade of the cherry orchard while giant  combines whirr in the valley below.  By mid-morning the fields of  grain shorn to patches of golden stubble. Beyond the crossroads the first sunflowers starting to bloom.

Bob and Sophie play under the irrigation system. Sophie manages to remain dry, Bob gets soaked. A dripping  'old man of the sea' type figure appearing in the kitchen for lunch. A quick nap then they're back out again. Sophie , nimble and spry ( and smarter ? ) , running ahead of the water jets ; Bob drenched by them. Time enough in the evening to bark at a lorry carrying grain to the silo. To bed at ten. Then untroubled sleep through to six thirty.

  1. Or is Bob the smarter, for once realising the cooling effects of water?

  3. You'll have to read my latest post--Todd had the same kind of day as Bob and Sophie--What was that I was saying yesterday about some things being the same?

  4. If it's that hot, maybe Bob is the smart one.

  6. I am laughing here....gut wrenching giggles.
Poor dear Bob, when will he realise that his sister is smarter than he is?
At first I thought you had managed to get the pool cover off, and he'd had a swim, but oh dear, the sprinklers!! Old man of the sea indeed.

  7. Wet but happy. What could be better on a hot day? Unless its getting a few light sprays of water that would be enough to keep another clever little dog equally cool.

  9. The sunflowers look stunning but not as lovely as the pictures of a very wet Bob, best way to keep cool this time of year !

  12. We have lots of farmers here who grow sunflowers. Its a joy to go past a big field of yellow on a grey day.
Don't know about Sophie being so much smarter than Bob, I do think she knows what she wants, however, and goes about getting it. Smart? time will tell!

  14. Angus, absolutely wonderful photos of the sunflowers and fields. Very enjoyable to see.
Bob looks very cool and comfortable. Sophie just doesn't want to get her pretty hair wet.

  17. Triple digits! We have them for three months of the year but couldn't imagine them with your humidity! Awful!
Bob seems to enjoy the water. Reminds me of Wilf when he'd wade into streams. Maybe a pre surgical bathing is a little to fresh in Sophie's mind. Remember, lots of fluids for all!
