Home
London is wet. Very wet. The hotel full. The view from our room less than edifying.
On Oxford Street the Christmas lights are blazing merrily away. Around the Swedish Embassy all the shops are selling Glogg and those festive little red horses the Swedes like to decorate with. ' The Font ' finds a store that will pack your shopping in a large cardboard box and ship it back for you. Angus thinks this money well spent.
On New Quebec Street the fishmonger doesn't think the French eat Lemon Sole . Plaice and Dover sole have Spanish, French and Portuguese translations. Lemon Sole seems untranslatable.
The surgeon, the anaesthetist, the ladies who fill out the forms ( when did going into hospital become such a marathon of form filling ? ) and the nursing staff all delightful. A kind and professional experience. Amazingly no pain.
In an hour Bob and the family diva will be collected from the kennels.
Hello Angus,
ReplyDeleteHappy to see you back home safe and with no pain for the Font. I can imagine how Bobby and Sophie are happy to see you.
Concerning the "lemon sole", we french call it "limande sole", may be is it the explanation.
I wish you a wonderful Saturday,
Veronique
Thanks. We've seen limande sole at the local fishmonger in Agen.
DeleteHopefully, your parcel will arrive in good condition--we seem to remember a few disasters with delivered boxes in the past.
ReplyDeleteAh, the Fortnums parcels.
DeleteYour photo of Oxford Street prompted a longing for London (although not Oxford Street!)
ReplyDeleteI am all too familiar with the scenario on the second cartoon.
Hope the font's thumb operation was successful as well as well as pain free.
Cheers, Gail.
Could London have been as wet as Aberdeen when we were there ? Seemed like it .
DeleteSo few shoppers in Oxford Street. The madness will commence shortly, I am sure.
ReplyDeleteThe view of two coffins below your hotel room window couldn't have been settling at all.
Welcome home!Teena & Merlin
x
My Goodness. They do look like coffins !
DeleteI think it must have been a timing thing, Oxford Street is very busy, well it is every time I'm there but maybe lunchtimes always are ?
ReplyDeleteThe decorations on Oxford Street look really good this year but what did you think to Regents Street Angus ?
Bet you're looking forward to getting the pack back together!
We , thankfully, stayed around Marylebone High Street.
DeleteI'm glad all went well on your trip -- I hope Bob and Sophie can say the same thing! Enjoy your Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThe duo are in fine form.
DeletePerhaps if you think of that view as "21st century moderne"?
ReplyDeleteThose Swedish horses and trees are charming.
Best to keep the curtains drawn .
DeleteHappy to hear the surgery was a painless success!
ReplyDeleteNot even a twinge.
DeleteWe are pleased and relieved everything went well for you, dear font. Do follow your post operative orders even if you feel fine. Take care with Bob and Sophie. Their exuberance will be untamed.
ReplyDeleteUntamed exuberance doesn't really do the back flip enthusiasm justice.
DeleteNo "straw donkeys" ? Even Ikea has Swedish donkeys for Christmas decorations?
ReplyDeleteGlad all are well, including the pups!
Straw donkeys and candles on trees. A very incendiary combination.
DeleteVery happy to hear the surgery went well.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or are the Christmas decorations really early this year. I've seen trees up all over the place. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I've been listening to Johnny Mathis all afternoon. xo
You're right. Christmas in retail land has started early this year. Thankfully the music has yet to catch up with the decorations.
