Another sign I've turned into my father. I read this Truth Social message and my first reaction is : 1) The King reigns 2) horses have reins and 3) hell rains down.
A normal workday in Scotland but south of the border it's an English holiday. The beach busy with joggers stretching their legs before getting in their car and heading back down the M6. It's a revision week for the students and many have taken the opportunity to fly out of Edinburgh to somewhere sunny and warm. For others faced with final exams there is a definite sense of approaching panic. The path to the library is usually quiet first thing in the morning but is now thronged with ' cramming ' fourth years. Can we really be so close to the end of the semester ?
The cold but sunny weather has brought the first of the wild flowers into sudden and sparkling bloom.

I wonder what your reaction was to the Truth Social post that followed that one. What a way to start the week, but the rugby piece helped a bit. I agree with you about language. Way back in time (2019), a reporter asked Nancy Pelosi whether she hated Trump and she fired back that she didn't hate him, she prayed for him. I'm not much of a praying person, but I thought the idea was sound and I made it a rule that I won't use the word "hate" at least as to people ("loathe," "detest," etc. are still permitted). It's amazing though how often the word does come to mind, which makes me think I was probably overusing it before. Discipline in language matters.

As a child, my mother forbade me to use the word “hate” when referring to msomeone who had supposedly offended me. To this day, it is not part of my vocabulary.

ReplyDeleteAs a child my siblings and I were told not to use the word hate and never, ever, EVER use the f-bomb. My dad admonished us that was the worst word in the world and there would be consequences if he heard any of us say it. Today it has become a part of everyday language for many. If I said it, I do believe I would feel a slight tremor from my dad turning over in his grave.
