6 months late but the new car is finally here. The colour is better than we'd feared.
The garage has one of those 'unveiling' ceremonies. These are always slightly embarrassing. In France and Italy a boom-box would play something 'lively'. Here, the mechanics and receptionists are called in to watch as a sheet is pulled back . It is rather like a poor mans Oscars award night. Even though you know what you've ordered there is a feeling that something suitable has to be said as you catch sight of your new compact SUV. 'The Font' pipes up with 'How marvellous'. Although brief this seems to hit the right note. There are smiles all round and the youngest of the receptionists claps. She is then told to go and answer the phone. After the ceremony everyone shakes our hands. The salesmen are slightly better at hiding their boredom with this routine than the mechanics who stifle yawns and would clearly prefer to be back listening to the radio and talking about football. How many times a year must they go through this customer interfacing purgatory ?

You can turn off the Volvo emergency traffic braking - at least we do on ours when not motorway driving.

That is indeed a thermos mug - and eBay has lots on sale for anything from £21 - 30, so you could have a matching pair. Unless the lid has a popup 'sippy' you are probably expected to drink at destination. It's for the communters who didn't have time to down their morning brew if they want to avoid the traffic. Or it would do for a picnic on one of your exploratory drives... YAM xx
Yam is spot on regarding the mystery cup. The bonus is it will keep your coffee hot or iced drink cold for a long time.
The new ride is very pretty and the color is lovely. What shall we name it? Might I suggest "Stormy" for the color of your beautiful and sometimes blustery coastline sky.
I hope the new car lives up to expectations. Ease of parking must be a plus.
Congratulations on the new car. It looks nice, and the smaller size will make parking easier.
I purchased a very large metal bottle at a going out of business sale, just because I wanted a large bottle for travels. It turns out that I love it! It keeps water cold for 12 hours, which is great on hot days when I'm on a long car trip. Perhaps you can find a replacement lid that would allow you to drink from it.

Well, it certainly is a good looking car. Given the length of additional time you had to wait for it, it would seem to warrant more than the "unveiling" and a metal thermos mug, perhaps a Margaux.......:)
Did you end up purchasing an e-car? The builder was able to wire your house so you can charge it? The car is beautiful.
Congratulations on the new car - it's rather handsome. Your mention yesterday of cleaning up the last bits of PON fur in the Volvo caught me - I have to admit I still sign on by typing "Bob" in the Google search bar. Gets me here every time.
Congratulations.
After all the extra wait and aggravation, the unveiling does seem somewhat anti- climatic, but the new car is indeed handsome. The color has a deep sea feel to it. Ocean foam?
Not a big fan of all the automated safety systems now tacked on newer vehicles; I am forever waiting for my car to tell me that I am too stupid to drive and to hand over the keys.
