Christmas song #4

Sunday morning in a small, rainy and very quiet university town in Scotland.

A flashing blue and white penguin stands on guard outside the ice-cream shop. The thing is, in its own way, quite remarkable. It wasn't here yesterday when we passed by. I'm guessing it will attract droves of four year olds ( and their parents ) as they come out of the pantomime in the theatre on the other side of the road.

Abandoned at the bakers doorway. The mournful look on this dogs face makes it quite clear that to be tied up and left so close to the croissants is a cruel and unusual punishment.

Through the rain streaked windows of Parliament Hall we see exam desks being set out. For the medical students who have nine o'clock tests tomorrow morning this sight is a good reason to double their pace towards the library. Usually, you don't see many students up and about before nine. This morning there are a lot of teenagers trying to squeeze in as much 'revision' as they can. Many must be vowing to spend less time partying in the New Year.

Something very innocent and festive about these young London buskers. Christmas song #4 :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7tQhCLAXoA

That blue penguin makes those decorating our local roundabout look downright sedate. I also enjoyed the buskers and wish I could buy that guy's sweater. On the other hand, the commentary on the $140K issue did not do justice either to Michael Greene or to his argument. I would encourage your American readers in particular to read his original Substack piece, which helped me better understand why so many in the working/middle class resent those lower down the totem pole - maybe it's not racism but the feeling that they've had the rug pulled out from under them.

The blue penguin will be an irresistible drawer. Well done for the ice cream shop to come up with such a brilliant idea!

Somehow, that photo through the window to the exam tables made me think of the Dickens' tale, Oliver Twist...something a little Victorian workhouse about it! I'm really enjoying your winter photos - and music. YAM xx

I just had a flashback to that last exam before the holiday break. Stress, followed by smiles.

I enjoyed the buskers. I hope that poor dog received a croissant end. Poor baby!

Color of the year doesn't make sense unless they are the rulling class. After 8+ years of "quiet luxury" and years of white minimalist interiors of the 2010s and after beige clothes and interior of the last 8 or so years, people are craving color which represents joy. They also want connection, security, and freedom to express. White in any form isn't the solution. Perhaps it's a disconnect between the privileged who decide those things and everyone else. The people who want white seem to be the people who live in privilege and want to quiet the descent around them. Everyone else wants more voice, more joy, more good. They don't want to pull back, they want to express themselves and bring their personality out.
