Christmas song #6

Outside the museum the brass band are collecting for charity. Dogs and their owners on their way back fom the beach stop to listen to this very Victorian sound. Not all the dogs seem enamoured with brass bands. A group of pre-schoolers and their mothers, having dropped of their siblings at kindergarten, sing along enthusiastically if atonally. I wonder if the sound of the band playing Good King Wenceslas reaches as far as the exam halls on the far end of the street ?

It has poured torrentially overnight and more monsoon like rain is expected later this morning. Scotland seems to be getting warmer but wetter. Later in the day Storm Bram is forecast to add strong winds to the mix. The workmen installing the new irrigation system on the golf course in this lengthy downpour must wonder if someone up there is taking the Mickey.

An Alpaca farmer has parked his van outside the fish and chip shop. Trips to the alpaca farm are popular with families trying to keep their children busy and entertained in the run up to Christmas.

The baker has at least a dozen varieties of his all purpose biscuit - Burns Night, Easter,  Graduation, Valentines Day - the list goes on. With the arrival of  Christmas he's getting close to the end of the annual biscuit repertoire. Only the Hogmanay edition is left. The biscuits started off the year at £1.65 and end the year costing £1.95. The red ones look very festive.

A difficult choice for Angus this morning . Sponge Snowman or Orange Truffle Christmas Pudding ? Both would be a suitably cheerful end to todays lunch .

Christmas song #6 by one of the worlds best choirs. The scarves and Christmas jumpers leave no doubt that this is a very English performance :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBCYZ9jIJkI&list=RDcBCYZ9jIJkI&start_radio=1

None of our dogs would have been able to sit on a stool let alone be trained to do this :https://x.com/TimNolanTV/status/1997728075610812480

We have never been to Las Vegas so are ill placed to comment on this :https://slate.com/business/2025/11/las-vegas-travel-sphere-hotel-donald-trump.html

Orange truffle...

Sublime singing, blissful bouncing Border Collies - if not herding sheep, then learning to skip is a pawfect use of skillz... YAM xx

How clever those dogs are! I wouldn't be able to skip like that or teach my dog to!

Visited Las Vegas once to attend a destination wedding being held at a luxury hotel. Wedding was fine, everything else...not so much. Actually changed my plane ticket to leave a day earlier.
Another vote for the Orange truffle.
The patience needed to train (even such clever dogs) skipping tricks must be astronomically high. This would also explain why my lovely pup largely ignores most of my commands unless there's sausage involved.

When I saw the words ' vote for the Orange truffle ' I thought you were making a political comment ! Strange how the word 'orange' words can cast a different meaning these days.

I'm not sure whether training dogs to skip is a testament to the patient and loving nature of dogs or the cleverness of the trainer. It's impressive but makes clowns of the dogs and not fair.

I just finished a novel set in St Andrews (it called it St Rule, but, if it walks like a duck...'). It claimed fudge doughnuts were a St Andrews speciality. Bluff, by Francine Toon, if you are interested.

The simple answer in the bakery is, one of each please.

I do agree the red Christmas cookies are one of the baker's better implementations of the all purpose biscuits. The piece on Las Vegas was interesting. I think I would enjoy a visit to the alpaca farm.

Camille, I had a similar experience with Las Vegas. A friend and I went there for a Leonard Cohen concert. Arrived, had a bite before the concert, slept one night and high tailed it out of there the following day, driving to Arizona for relief. Great concert, though!

At the bakery, one of each please.
Regarding Las Vegas...it's a constant in-your-face place. If you like that atmosphere, go, but there are so many other places in this beautiful world to spend your time and money.

Today's Christmas song is most beautiful and my favorite so far. The clever dogs seem to be enjoying themselves and made me smile.

Peter and I have never been to Las Vegas despite his employer having a house there and offering the use of it for free. Only cost would be the flight from Vancouver BC.

I remember that we girls in elementary school skipped with two skipping ropes just like the dogs. We called it “double Dutch”. These were our only “devices”. Another reason why kids were skinny in those days. This is how we burned off excess energy. It’s actually really difficult so I can’t imagine the training that went into this. C.

I would never go to Las Vegas even though it was a short cheap flight to go there. Too many bed bugs … even in the best hotels.

Double Dutch, Brilliant!! Las Vegas, not so much.

Count me in with the Orange Truffle club...and, no, this is not a political comment. :)
