The days are getting longer. Not long ago it was pitch dark by three thirty in the afternoon, now it's light until nearer to four. Such things are noted in these northerly parts. Soon the mornings will be bright enough for a walk on the beach by eight. The cheese monger continues to look festive and the little restaurant near the post office has taken delivery of some jolly yellow pavement furniture. In the village the ladies are already busy decorating the hall in readiness for the Hogmanay gathering.
The opening lines of the first chapter are a reminder of Mark Twains belief that history doesn't repeat itself but it does rhyme.
The wee house in town now ready for Hogmanay. Even the small ( and neglected ) ground floor bedroom has been made ready by the cleaning ladies. 'The Font' thinks it looks spartan but it's too late to do much about that now. I shall go down later this morning and dead head the roses in the garden. I'll also take the leaf blower as the flower beds are looking a little wild. The year is suddenly racing towards Hogmanay. Later today I shall go in search of my sporran and sgian dhub.
Better than the real John Lewis advert ? :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w97a6jUbbRw

That advert is beautifull. Such fun.
Do you ever leave the leaves till spring?
The older I get, the faster the years seem to pass.

What many may fail to notice is all the evidence of that being a fully AI produced video. It is adorable, but has little 'hiccups' that give it away (the most noticeable of all is when 'mum' comes down the door step - note the struggle for perspective). Yes, it was sweet and well-intended... how we are wooed...
In my head I live like that bedroom... IRL I live more like that bookshop! YAM xx
I'm simultaneously gobsmacked and cheered to read about deadheading roses and blowing leaves! We are under an inch of ice after a night of freezing rain ... a bit much even for us hardy Canucks. Sigh.
That bedroom is beautiful. I sometimes think the head of the IR Dept is too negative, but not today, unfortunately. Hopefully, somehow, next year will be a better one for Ukraine.
Beautiful bedroom. The lampshade made me smile for some reason. Am I showing my age by wondering when the orchestra code of dress allowed tank tops, satin pants and big boots?
The quote about the fragility of democracies struck hard after just looking at the LA Times year in pictures -- all fires and ICE raid protests. Auld Lang Syne was very soothing. Very. We are having 45 mph winds here today. Always puts me on edge.
We are in the same boat as Hardy Canuck here; no need for a blower with our 70 to 90 km/h winds and plummeting temperatures.
I would gladly stay in the small bedroom.
Waiting for updates on the sporan-hunting.
I have spent time leaf blowing and dead heading roses this week and it’s high summer here… the heat made my trees drop its leaves out of season… most of NZ getting rain and 120mkm winds today so may be a miserable new year :(
