All through the night.

Service at the bar very slow this morning. There is a wine delivery. The young waitress is very taken with the spiky haired delivery man. The delivery man is equally ( if not more so ) taken with the young waitress. After several attempts at ordering Angus and the two PONs finally leave without their coffee or bowl of water. The delivery driver and the waitress are deep in conversation as we leave. There is little sign that the crates of wine are about to be unloaded.

The PONs deal with their disappointment by chasing round the garden. Six cormorants land on the oak tree by the barn. They dry their wings in the morning sun. Sophie is furious. The cormorants are not bothered.

The odd job mans wife has been cleaning the church. As part of her routine she's dusted the electronic control panel for the bells. It seems she doesn't have a light touch. Buttons have been pressed that shouldn't be touched and the bells have some sort of campanological breakdown. First one bell chimes, ten minutes later a second, then shortly after wards they all bong away in some sort of manic medley. A long period of silence ensues then they repeat themselves. The mayor and the odd job man are in the church all afternoon. The bells maintain their random hyperactivity through the night. Sophie barks - once - each time they clunk. The mayor promises that a man from Toulouse will be here this morning to fix them.

We go to the bakers in the neighbouring market town. The PONs are given some baguette to chew on.

Curiosity is one of the great secrets of happiness.

The thrum of a two stroke engine signals the approach of  Madame Bay in her gold metallic 'Wild Child' voiturette. Within five minutes of her arrival she's arguing with the builders.  '' How am I supposed to work here ? Look at this mess " . A row of neatly arranged boxes containing electric drills a particular irritant.  She tells the joiner to wipe his feet. The workmen take the remonstrations of this beturbaned virago with good grace.

Madame Bay spends the rest of her morning cutting roses . By the time she goes every vase is full of slightly wind damaged blooms. Even the kitchen has become a riot of pink. The house looks as though Barbie has decorated it.

Bob and Sophie thoroughly enjoy the mornings theatre.
