The garden usually plays host to three generations of sparrows. This year there seems to be a fourth smaller brood that's hatched late. They're sitting on the log bin by the kitchen window shoogling down and stretching out their wings to make the most of the morning sunshine. They squabble incessantly and noisily which makes it obvious they're siblings. Is a fourth brood another sign of subtle climate change ?
Decidedly upmarket litter by the cafe at the harbour end of the beach. Golf tees and a new and unused golf ball among the detritus deposited by the day trippers.
You know the year is rolling along when the summer schools start to post videos of the great time they've just had. The teenagers are always 'enthusiastic' visitors and the place is immediately much quieter when they go :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgGD8vVjLjg .
Interesting music on the car radio this morning. The adventurous summer intern must still be choosing what to play :https://youtu.be/pR4iCWB-VVQ?t=11

Shoogling is a great word that I have never heard before!
A great Scottish expression is “yer jacket’s on a shoogly peg”
Angus, you had me all excited for a pair of rare cranes. Sadly, interesting as they are, they are “only” herons.
I would invite you to come and visit the only Scottish breeding cranes up here in the NE, but I don’t think we have a single hotel that would meet your standards.
In the days when people had coal fires you would periodically shoogle the embers with a fire iron.
You are absolutely right. Put it down to writing before seven in the morning stupidity. With the info about the cranes you've also given me a reason to head North to visit the Macallan restaurant !
I had to look up who Joe Hisaishi is, but now I understand I've heard lots of his music over the years, as he's written movie scores for both Hayao Miyazaki (Ghibli) and Takeshi "Beat" Kitano. (You couldn't imagine two more different moviemakers.) This song is from Kiki's Delivery Service, which is a Ghibli family favorite here. I also found the "adult" analysis of the Alaska summit interesting, but then again this morning we woke up to the news that the President has reportedly called the Norwegian finance minister "out of the blue" to request the Nobel Peace Prize. Not sure that "adult" analyses are really pertinent to this situation.

...I see you have been corrected re the Heron misidentification - though for a second my ornithological juices were running! The article on carbomorphine discovery was riveting... I wish it well, but of course can see the heralding of extremely expensive drug development and nothing to come to the level of ibuprofen or aspirin in cost/benefit terms. YAM xx
Interesting links again this morning. Your comment that a good butcher and a good fishmonger are vital to a town is so true.

Still learning new words at my age.
The music is lovely, and not being much of a moviegoer, haven't really heard its like before. Thanks!
I just figured Shoogle would be the Chinese competitor to Google...
