London bound.

From the courtyard we can see that there's been more snow on the hills on the far side of the bay. None of it has, so far, fallen on our side of the water. This is good news because we're heading down to London for a few days and are hoping that Edinburgh airport is going to be operating smoothly. It seems even a rumour of snow brings travel to a halt.  We're off to see a new eye surgeon and possibly book at late Spring cruise around Japans inland sea with a group of 34 American gardeners and archaeologists. The gardeners then go onto Borneo but were not sure about being on a small environmentally friendly boat without air conditioning that far south.

You can't say that the local bakers has gone overboard with its post-Christmas window display. Sugar, and lots of it, is a recurrent theme.

An open door lets us catch a glimpse of workmen rearranging furniture in one of the university buildings. Three weeks and the new semester officially starts. We've seen a few students but most are sensibly waiting until later in the month to trek North. Much of England has been snowed in but this part of Scotland has remained largely bright and sunny and very windy.

Indian take on western music. Lovely. The dog at the 1:45 mark is supremely happy :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZoHuoFQyrI

Japan as a destination seems to be very popular with New Zealanders at the moment. My daughter and I are thinking about visiting there in their autumn this year.

New Zealand was a very popular destination for Japanese when we went years ago. In places (apart from the locals) we were the only Western faces.
I notice two artfully positioned Scotch pies in the baker's window - an antidote to all that sugar on display?

My sister and a cousin did an art-focused tour of Japan last autumn - came back raving about it. Thank you for the mum and son delight! YAM xx

Good heavens, Japan is hot as a destination these days. A cruise around the Inland Sea should be lovely - it's something I always wanted to do, but my husband is boat-averse.

The Indian/Radiohead music was so soothing. We had 100 MPH winds on Tuesday night which blew the roof off of my garage.. Two friends who lived in Altadena lost their homes to fire. The music was a salve. Do you and the Font fall into the Gardner or Archeologist categories?? I hope the eye surgeon has some new thoughts; though your photos on the blog have not suffered from any poor vision!

Our thoughts are with you. The fires arer leading the news here.

Lovely photos of the hills on the far side of the bay. Enjoy your trip to London and I hope the surgeon offers some new insight to keeping your eyesight healthy.
