Some light drizzly rain this morning. The farmer will be pleased as will the fire service. There's been a blaze in the dry heather up on the hills by Aviemore. The village is getting ready for something called The Rat Race being run the 100 miles between Edinburgh and Glamis Castles:https://www.ratrace.com/rr100-edinburgh-to-glamis-2026-eei/#eei-overview We know little about it but professional looking orange signs have appeared by the doocot pointing runners down to the field where the cows are. A table dispensing Barley Water has been put up in front of the potato barns. There is a general feeling of expectancy amongst the villagers who are unsure whether to expect tens or hundreds of visitors. The scout hut in the next village down the coast has been turned into an overnight pit stop with warm food and a doctor on duty for those intent on doing the full 100 miles. It's all very professional.
Down where the golf courses meet the sea the groundskeepers have planted a wild flower meadow. It attracts swarms of bees and flocks of butterflies. It also looks good so can be counted a great success.

Now all that pretty is one thing - but what about the taste?! Ta for that delightful wee poem. Happy Sunday from Sweetheart Abbey. YAM xx
The wildflowers must be an unexpected yet pretty sight for the golfers. Speaking of pretty, those chocolates are really almost too pretty to eat - almost! I, too, wonder about the taste. The Rat Race tops the list for a way for the human experience to be tested. But who has time to enjoy the scenery.
Much of Europe would envy you wanting to seek the indoor warmth.
Oh, those chocolates are Beautiful! What a grand birthday gift to receive. I would have a hard time eating them, and also have a hard time not eating them all at once! Enjoy your lovely treat. Karin in Colorado
The wildflower meadow is gorgeous! As are your chocolates! We didn't even get light drizzly rain here - we were supposed to get about an inch of rain last night, but all we got were two hours of thunder and lightning with no rain at all. I think they did get a lot to the west, where they real need it to cope with the fires.
No thank you to ultra marathons. Especially if it's cold and rainy. Or if it's hot. I used to have a friend who was a medic at such races (they would run through Death Valley!). Apparently short 10-20 minute naps are great for recovery along the way. Oh my!
I'm fascinated by the reflections cast by the sanderlings. The wildflowers are splendiferous and the Joy Sullivan poem is exquisite. I hope the chocolates are as scrumptious as they look.
Happy belated birthday wishes to you! Such beautiful wildflowers and that poem is delightful. My heart is in Ohio.
