A record of those unimportant little things that are too important to be forgotten.

Thursday
The temperature back into the low 20's. PON weather. This morning we head off for an hours walk to the stream and the waterfall. Only problem is that it's the better part of a month since it rained and the stream and the waterfall have both dried out . We do however watch the dragon flies and Kingfishers dart about along the shady stream bed. There must have been a herd of deer here overnight because the angelic duo are in head down nostril flaring mood.
At the supermarket they've installed an Amazon parcel delivery machine. It is improbable that any of the residents of this corner of deepest deepest France profonde would know how to use it.
We always travel in October. We'd thought of going to Shanghai but with things as they are this plan didn't gain traction. Angus suggested that we go to Japan for the Rugby World Cup. A plan the Cost Centres heartily endorsed. This proposal was met with a 'Ha!'. Not as Angus hoped a 'Ha!' of approbation but a 'Ha!' of derision.
'The Font' observes that the clothing store that Angus likes is selling Rugby World Cup apparel.
Angus thinks it extremely improbable that he will be seen wearing items of clothing with motifs or slogans.
I once heard this lady sing this song at the Fox theatre in Atlanta. I'd not heard it again until it was played this morning on Radio Nostalgie. Does anyone else remember it ? : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsL9UL9qbv8

October is the very best season in Japan . . .
Great song. And how I would have loved to hear Aretha singing live. But would the great lady have ever anticipated we would be listening to her music via a blog on a YouTube video preceded by (for me this morning) a sofa advert? Cheers! Gail.
How wonderful for you and The Font to have your very own Amazon delivery box installed near the ROFH! I remember a great rendition of "Think" in the classic 1980's movie "The Blues Brothers" which shows my age.
Hate logo shirts but love that black jacket. The claw mannequin hands are a bit...oddly disturbing. Aretha was fabulous and sorely missed. New England is nice in October. Of course you'll need to beat all the other tourists off with a stick.
I would skip the logos as well. Looking forward to the rugby, have entered a couple of competitions to win free trips to see the final, as that would be the only way I could go.
Hope you get to plan a nice holiday.
I will always love Aretha and always hear "Hey 19: that's 'Retha Franklin." in my ear to remind me of the culture gap.
Also, did I miss hearing about Bob's lump/bump? How did that work out? Can't wait to see where you go in October ;-)
You are right. Not even the promise of the Imperial will entice The Font to join Angus and the CC's watching rugby.
A sofa ad makes a pleasant change from the more usual life/car insurance intro.
We shall monitor the popularity of the Amazon delivery centre closely.
I fear the black jacket is not really Angus.
Good luck with the competitions !
Bobs lump seems to have gone which is good news.
You were so fortunate to hear Aretha preform live, and at the FOX! Just curious, do you remember if she used a microphone? Most singers there don’t. Oh yes, the Fox was rocking that night ! ! ! By the way, the Fox looks just like you remember. Great craftsman have made sure of that!
I'm amazed it's still there ! As a poor Emory student I seem to remember the neighbourhood needed some investment.
Remember the song and Aretha well..... Also, don't like clothes with motifs and pictures....unless it's about dogs.
What you remember about the neighborhood is accurate. The Fox was to be torn down, and turned into a multi level parking garage. Atlanta was known for tearing down amazing architecture. What happened when the wrecking ball was delivered to the Fox property is a wonderful story, with a fairy tale outcome! Some of the story can be obtained from the National Park Service, Atlanta, Fox Theatre web site. But the best part had to be experienced as it unfolded. I have never been so proud of what the people of Atlanta, from all walks of life, did to save The Fox!
