The Air Force are up and about bright and early this morning. We're woken by jets flying low overhead. There must be a Russian convoy in the North Sea. Earlier in the week the Navy was keeping a watchful eye on a large spy ship that was loitering near the cross Channel power cables. From the level of military activity today I'd guess the ship has now made its way 400 miles North and is somewhere near the new windfarm offshore from us.
The sheep on the village green seem unbothered by the roar of afterburners. They munch contentedly on the grass by the burn. The farmer tells us that the Burns Night raffle raised £1650 for the village kitty. He is very happy with this.
The pilots seem to be flying in circles. Lots of 'O' shaped contrails can be seen in the sky to the North and South. On their way to school the village children stop and stare skywards at this strange spectacle.
A new exhibition is being set up in the art gallery in town. A rather stylish lady is overseeing the hanging of pictures. Peering through the window it looks like the dog sculptures have gone.
Opposite the art gallery one of the medieval houses in town is being repainted. Lilac and puce make a rather low key combination. I'm sure it's historically correct although maybe just a wee bit drab ?

What was the main prize for the raffle that made £1650? That is a good profit for your wee village.
Main prize was a hamper of 'local farm produce'. Second prize was a 'good ' bottle of champagne. Third prize was a box of the New Zealand guys seaweed soaps and shampoos.

Puce? I'd put those doors firmly in the beige range - and so wrong. But each to their own! Yes, well done on the fundraising, that village. YAM xx
The house does look rather dull and lacking in today's kerb appeal, but would there have been such a range of colours in Medieval times. The stone window surrounds would probably have been left the natural colour.
What an excellent result from the fund raising.
Saber rattling in the north sea.
Those pesky Russians are everywhere.
Enjoyed the article about evil. Gave me hope.
Glad you enjoyed it. I did but hard to tell if others would too. Good to see something written that goes beyond the standard and simple free will answer.
All three links were very stimulating today. I have been thinking about evil rather a lot lately, and I agree the article gave some cause for hope. We must guard against defining evil down. As to AI-written laws, I am undecided. A lot of laws are badly written, whether because the writers were either unskilled lawyers or unskilled writers, or because laws are almost always the product of compromise. AI might be able to eliminate some of the confusion that arises from poor drafting, but I worry that it may also continue the trend of making things even more complex and less accesssible. And then finally, the beautfiul Swedish house to take my mind away from these weighty matters . . .
A channel has been broadcasting the 1980s Scottish film "Local Hero" lately. As it is one of my favorites and is seldom aired, I've watched it a couple of times recently. There is a scene where those jets are cruising over the bay, so I have a sense of what that feels like from the ground. Yikes.

I rather like the Swedish house but would prefer it to be same color as the dark red outbuildings.
I too found the article on evil very interesting and quite reassuring in a way. It's a subject my husband and I often have "discussions" about. The Swedish house was fabulous, and let me practise my very limited Swedish which I am learning online..it let me see just how limited it was! No reason for learning it and I realise Swedish people can speak English often better than I can but I like to see the Scottish and German languages reflected in it. Thank you for both of these experiences.
