Never give up. Great things take time.

On our morning walk Bob sees a red squirrel. The squirrel seems unconcerned.

In the park by the river the pollarded Plane trees are throwing off new branches as if it's spring. A geometrically beautiful sight. It's a most unwintry 16 degrees today.

The depressive bakers wife asks me how many cakes I want. '' Two for lunch today and two for tomorrow ". ' It's hardly worth your coming in ' she replies. Difficult to say whether this is French humour or what she's really thinking. From her unsmiling demeanour I'd opt for the latter.

The Grand Marnier sponge proves to be delicious.

A sign for a missing child in the window of the hat shop. On closer inspection the girl went missing 20 years ago. If there's one thing worse than the death of child it must be the disappearance of one. Love of course never gives up.

It rains. The market square deserted. Bob and Sophie stop to drink at length from every puddle.

The PON's go with 'The Font' to drop the rubbish off at the bins. Bob has a joy overload. He does his soft shoe shuffle and shows his overbite. Sophie howls in anticipation. Only dog owners can understand that a trip to the bins in the car is a moment of high adventure.

For Bob and Sophie it has been the best day ever. Puddles and bins.

Oh Angus - such temptations - there are quite a few of us out here already battling with the New Year's resolution diet, and you show us those gorgeous cakes. Look what we're missing !
A stop off at the bins is sometimes part of our daily walk, so doesn't make for quite such high excitement. A good sniff round the bin, though, is viewed as something of a special treat, so not to be rushed....

What a great day for a dog in your house. And for you - always good to have a day with cake in it.

Well personally I am fed up with puddles and looking forward to having dry paws again some day.
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
PS Gail suggests you order double helpings of Grand Marnier sponge today and see if the baker's wife cheers up.

Every day is a great day for Bob and Sophie. Particularly if mud and twigs can be dragged through the house.

Oh the cakes ! I'm not sure whether to do the soft shoe shuffle or howl at the sight of them.

It's amazing that the Grand Marnier sponge was incredibly delicious...the depressive aura could have really thrown it off.
If I'm not in a happy place I don't even attempt to bake a cake....if my spirit isn't happy my cake will flop and taste awful....happens all the time.
Parents and Dog owners never give up hope of their loved ones when they disappear...reminds me of the story of the missing dog that was found in the neighboring village.
Happy day for Bob and Sohpie....bins and puddles...what dog could ask for more?

Thanks for the photos of the heavenly cakes. Such a treat since this lady of a certain age has a nasty Christmas kg (which has unfortunately settled around her waist ) to loose and cannot partake.
I cannot imagine what it must be like to suffer that type of loss of a child or a beloved animal. It would haunt me forever. How would life ever be normal again.
