A permanent memorial

It has been scorchingly hot. The mayor is up early setting up sprinklers on the new petanque court.  He tells me that to commemorate the end of WW1 on November 11th there will be a village gathering in the Salle des Fetes. Everyone will be asked to bring along any old photos of the village or its inhabitants. His contribution will be photos of two great uncles who went off to war on their cart horses. They are the first two names on the war memorial. The photos will be displayed in the church porch as a permanent memorial. Could Angus arrange for them to be framed ? Sophie has got bored and is now starting to dig up the soil on the petanque court. We make our apologies and leave.

Today Sophie's nose displays a remarkable lustre even by her high standards of lustre . If a cold wet nose is a sign of good health then our lady with titanium knees is in fine fettle.

Even the most ferocious of house guardians require a little down time before heading off to the bakers.

Sophie is soon sound asleep. Her big brother maintains a degree of watchfulness before he too nods off.

A cat giving an owl a bath. How cool is that ? Feel good factor 10/10 :

An amazing Frank Lloyd Wright house for sale in LA. I'd have to say it doesn't look to be the most comfortable of his designs :  https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/2607-Glendower-AveLos-Angeles_CA_90027_M14382-51984#photo7

This is mega cool in a clever techy way. From the Moscow gallery run by Abramovitch's wife :  https://www.instagram.com/p/BnZLHowHDO9/?taken-by=zhestkov

Now I could understand it if the cat giving the owl a bath received 12 million views!

Based on the view, I must have lived just below the Wright house in LA, but I've never seen that one. It reminds me a lot of the Imperial Hotel that Wright designed in Tokyo - kind of a Mayan feeling. I'd always heard that he had designed the hotel to be built someplace where the design would be more appropriate but that contract got cancelled so it ended up in Tokyo. Looking at what you found, however, I wonder . . . The hotel in Tokyo was taken down in 1968 but the facade and lobby are preserved in a theme park(!)

Thanks for the info about Wrights Imperial hotel in Tokyo. Not sure the Mayan style works much better in LA.

I'm looking forward to seeing the photos the villagers come up with for the 11 November gathering.
The owl and the pussycat - how cute! Preparing for a sea voyage perhaps - but where is their pea-green boat?

It's a good thing the framer's shop is a PON favorite.
That photo of Sophie does make it look as if she has donned a clown nose--so perfectly round.

FLW no thanks. There is nowhere on a wall for any of your artwork, let alone a picture of your dog.

Not many days in LA when you would be able to get a crystal clear shot of downtown like that. Perhaps the photographer waited for a "come quickly" call from the owners.

Looks like the wisteria was reinvigorated by its collapse is now putting out new growth. I often wonder how many years ago it was planted...there when those young men went off to war more than a century ago?

Hope the wrist is healing well.

We used to drive by that Wright house when I was in high school. The rumor was that it was haunted! Also that the exterior was used for a 60's horror movie called "House on Haunted Hill." EEEKKK!

On another note, since google is letting me comment today, Bob looks extremely intimidating guarding from the safety of his bed!!

And finally, yesterday I was late to my exercise class because I couldn't stop watching that jello-knife video! What thinks this stuff up??

It certainly looks haunted.
