Opening night.

The Justin Timberlake/Tiger Woods sports bar/cinema complex had a 'select' opening night. I try to go in but don't pass the door mans 'cool dude' style test. Having an invitation might have helped. Being under 25 and dressed from head to toe in black might also have been useful. I shall return tomorrow to take photos in something more youthful and hipster like than burgundy cords and a tweed jacket.

Today, there are patches of blue in the sky but the weather front has now been given a name - 'Storm Amy'. Wind speeds have been upgraded to 90 mph. You've got to feel sorry for the organizers of the golf tournament - the weather gets them every time. Not even the sturdiest of Scottish golfers will be out playing in 90 mph winds and what the Fisher Island folk will think of this doesn't bear thinking about. Everyone is hoping praying that the winds will trend to the  north and leave us alone.  Will the marquees and bleachers still be standing tomorrow ?

Ahead of the storms arrival the weather continues to be changeable. Heavy rain one minute, gentle sunshine the next. The local dog owners use any dry spells to get out onto the beach. A few students venture out for a morning run.

Starbucks is full of young wannabe golfers waiting for their tee off times. They're trying to make their way onto the rankings and the big time. A young Norwegian tells the heavily tattooed young lady at check-out that he's sharing a room in the Premier Inn with three of his mates. They go to Marks and Spencers for sandwiches and walk the mile into town carrying their clubs. No chauffeured limos for them. The dream of stardom and wealth keeps them going. In the meantime they jet from tournament to tournament on RyanAir and hope they'll be invited to dinner at one of the corporate shindigs .

In the supermarket Christmas puddings have arrived.

As have Christmas biscuit boxes which are now in every souvenir shop ( of which there are many ) in town. This year we seem to be going straight to Christmas without detouring to Halloween.
