Hedgehogs, statues and music.

Out here on the North Sea we're facing the outbreak of a hedgehog arterivirus. Thankfully, the farmers wife thinks all our local hedgehogs are disease free. She's not seen any at all this week and takes this as proof that they're healthy and must be settling down to sleep their way through winter.

The University Music Centre has a wonderful Victorian TC Lewis organ that has been restored and which makes a remarkable sound. Despite the early hour the place is full of youngsters and university staff  attentively waiting for the organist from Edinburgh to start.

Toffee Apple doughnuts the centre piece in the bakers window. They make a change from the usual fudge doughnuts. Will they sell or will the students shun this seasonal innovation?

On our morning walk through the college gardens we comment on the fact that the bushes are thick with berries. This is natures way of feeding the birds before a severe winter. By the look of things it's going to be a very cold winter.

Someone doing unusual calisthenics on the shopping street. We hurry by. After yesterdays man standing on a barrel strange behaviour seems to be spreading.

The bright eight am sun picks out a statue of a Saint on the front of the Anglican church . We've wandered down here a thousand times and never seen the saint before.

We feel sorry for the organizers of the golf tournament. Now that the the fans and players have gone the sun is out and it's unseasonably warm.

Largest immigrant category by US state. The Scots don't get a mention. Guess we're down as a subset of the English :

I've been noting the incredible berry production of trees and shrubs this year, too. Quite glorious to see, but if the old adage holds true, we're in for a bad one. I have noted that the old adages are starting to lose their weight, however... I guess as the climate changes, so must the adage! YAM xx

The berries are beautiful, even if they are an ominous sign. I found the immigrant map very interesting, although lumping the Scots in with the English loses a lot of nuance. New Jersey looks about right, with the little dot of Germans from which my family came, although I can't understand why all the Puerto Ricans are in the south of the state, and I wonder where the Cubans are.

I hope the Farmer’s wife is correct and your hedgehogs are free from viruses. The black walnut trees in our yard have produced an abundance of fruits and the local squirrels have been very busy.
