Will the bar be ready ?

The golfers and the fans make the most of whatever dry weather is available. There are a few welcome gaps in the clouds but they and the accompanying dry spells  don't last long. In the all too brief rain-free moments small crowds gather to watch the teams tee off. Ticket sales are slow and the wind swept bleachers largely empty. Cameramen do their best to look as if they're enjoying themselves. At least it's mild.

The winds over the next few days are forecast to reach 60 mph which will make the course 'challenging'. Most of the elite players live in southern Florida so they may be less than happy to be playing in these conditions. As we walk down to the shore we watch a pair of Gulfstream jets descend over the bay and glide in below the clouds  towards the RAF base. You know the passengers are either super well connected or senior American lawmakers when they get clearance to land there. I look on Flight Tracker to see who might be onboard but the flights are 'dark' and no information is avaialble.

In the garden at the Last Wee House before Denmark a late and solitary Dahlia decides to provide a burst of colour before the gales arrive.

I think of trimming back the peony leaves but they provide a cheerful russet tone to what's left of the garden foliage. They can remain unbothered for another couple of weeks until the first of the frosts arrive.

Work on the Sports Bar has become frenetic. The whitewashing of the exterior now a priority. The signs that were put up and then taken down are now going up again. Today is the first day of the tournament proper. Will the bar be ready for the two owners to host a reception tonight ? Tune in tomorrow .....

We have spent a lot of time in this town and have always found it to have a 'conservative' palate. On our last trip 'The Font' was surprised to be offered a pre-dinner amuse bouche that consisted of three separate bowls of French Fries - regular fries, truffle fries and fries with Mayo :https://archive.is/cgdxY

The implications of this are interesting. Times they are a changing :https://panda.substack.com/p/did-the-united-states-just-commit

Last year, when our gardener chopped the peonies down to the ground, I assumed he had somehow mistaken them for weeds. I had almost forgotten about them when they suddenly re-emerged last spring. At the moment, they are, like yours, still looking strong, but I know their time is coming.
