The tournament springs into life.

The wind and rain from earlier in the week has blasted the trees in town. A layer of leaves is now carpeting the pavements. Give it a week or two and the trees will be completely bare. Sunday morning is a quiet time here. The students, or most of them, are tucked up in bed. A few stop outs looking the worse for wear can be seen struggling home after a night of 'excess'.

The farmers wife says she was in the coffee shop by the auld kirk when Michael Douglas and Kevin Costner came in. Bad weather is a great leveler.

This morning there are a few hardy spectators on the bleachers hoping to catch a glimpse of the leaders but most folk are sensibly waiting to see if the weather improves. The Met Office forecast promises sunshine. If it does turn out to be sunny the town will soon be packed with golfers and their teenage offspring enjoying a days quality time together. South Africans and Scots are battling it out for the top four places so interest is likely to be high. Parking will be impossible so we shall not even attempt to go back into town until tomorrow.

Last nights firework display went ahead as planned although the wind was strong and the health and safety people didn't give the go ahead until the late afternoon. Despite the uncertainty people came from far and wide to see it. We stood in the garden and watched the start of the proceedings but you need to be close to a firework display to get the full measure of it. Being seven miles away doesn't really cut it.

Two new sculptures in the art gallery window. We think the smaller of the two dogs is the more life like. It seems to have a hint of a smile.
