Calm contentment

Let it not be said that Radio Scotland is parochial. This morning the lead story on the breakfast bulletin is about possible tax rises in this months budget but the second and third stories involve Zohran Mamdani and the hitherto unknown ( in these parts at least ) Nick Fuentes. Each of these gentlemen, it seems, are in their own way controversial.  We both agree that living in a quiet backwater has some advantages.

The village green busy this morning.

Parents and their offspring heading to the bus stop are carefully monitored. What better place to shelter than a grass rich field surrounded by a high, wind deflecting stone wall ?

Work on renovating the town fountain continues apace. With each passing day more and more of the street gets blocked off by fencing. It looks as if the builders are putting up some form of roof over the fountain. This will, presumably, enable them to work on it no matter what the weather is doing.

A few junior teaching staff are walking their children to school. They join the early birds at the university end of town. This is in some ways the best time of year to be here. The tourists have gone, the youngsters are immersed in their studies and parking spots and restaurant reservations are easy to come by.  The wee town has an air of calm contentment. Scotlands weather - or at least our version of it - continues to be well behaved -  windy and wet at night and bright and blustery during the day.

A statue of St Andrew catches the morning sun. If you're going to find a statue of the Saint then this is the place to do it.

Oh, a flock of Suffolk (possibly crosses). They'll keep the grass under control! That St Andrew by the Mitchell has always stopped me to stand and ponder - it's a fine piece. YAM xx

Thanks for the sheep photos, I could watch them for hours.

What a beautiful shot of St. Andrew - not to mention the sheep. The article about enriching your dog's sniffing life seemed a little silly, although Charlie does regret that no one else seems to walk their dogs around our hilly neighborhood, making our road rather unstimulating. We have to drive into the village for some proper smells. I have no idea whether Zohran Mamdani will be a good mayor or not, but I am hoping that New Yorkers share my irritation at all these people, including the president, trying to threaten them into voting against him.

St Andrew might be Scotland's patron but his garb suggests he understood little about the climate.

I used to live on the river underneath the access Rd to the Remarkables in Queenstown. The parapent picture brought back a lot of memories. Hotel looks wonderful.
