Later this morning we set off to the airport. Tomorrow we join our boat for a leisurely six day, thousand mile, journey to the North of Norway. This will be followed by an equally leisurely six day journey South. Restaurants have been booked in all the little towns the boat overnights in. Other nights we shall dine at sea. Some days there will be enough time for a quick lunch in one of the 34 places we're scheduled to visit. Raw fish and Elk feature heavily on all the menus - a feature 'The Font' will love. Angus less so. Conversations have been had with friendly sommeliers about what wine holds its own in a world of permanent darkness and sub-zero temperatures.
After the White Lotus vibe of the cruise with the Palo Altoans the onboard atmosphere of this trip should be calmer. The sea conditions are another thing altogether. 'Gale 7. Rough or occasionally very rough' says the weather forecast for Norwegian waters. Usually at this time of the year we head off somewhere sunny. Kiawah or Cairo sounded enticing but were rejected for some reason neither of us can now remember. We have paid $500 for internet access on the boat but between Russian jamming and the remoteness of our itinerary this may - or may not - work. Updates might be posted.
While typing this an e-mail from the shipping company arrives and informs us that Fridays departure may be delayed due to adverse weather.
This morning a quick trip down to the supermarket for some toothpaste. After that we're all packed and ready to go.

I hope you will have a wonderful adventure. And that you will be able to update us from time to time. Two weeks without your blog would be quite a lifestyle change for some of us.

Some might consider such internet pricing as gouging, if not extortion. Here's hoping... for at least a couple of posts and fair sailing! Enjoy whatever it brings you, Angus. YAM xx
Enjoy the adventures, we look forward to hearing all about it.

Enjoy your trip, we'll miss you. Wishing you wonderful desserts to make up for the elk etc.
Enjoy the cruise and the chance to see the Northern Lights. Are you and the Font going to try dog sledding to get your fix of being with Huskies in the snow?
Looking forward to reports on raw fish and elk -wine pairing...Is cod liver on the menu as well? It is actually quite the delicacy.
Bon voyage and safe sailing.
Have a wonderful trip. I am confident it will be quite the adventure. Cannot wait to hear more about it. I have hiked all around the fjords but I have not been as far north as you are going.
wishing you smooth sailing :)
It's Tues the 11th: 2 wishes: #1 That you are having a grand time. #2 That you get your $500- back. Missing your voice.
Pam, I echo your comment. I hope they are doing well and can see the Northern Lights. They are visible here in the states as far south as AZ. A refund is in order.
