A cool morning. ' The Font' opens up all the shutters and gets out the v-a-c-u-u-m.  Bob and Sophie abhor the v-a-c-u-u-m. Bob lies on the door stoop, his back to the howling spawn of Satan and tries to feign masculine indifference. Sophie goes to the far end of the garden and sits frowning at this raucous start to her day.

Our search for a replacement cleaning lady for the dreadful Caroline has not progressed. The concept of showing up regularly and at a fixed time is something that seems beyond the understanding of the recent applicants. Demands for paid holidays are always greeted, by us, with surprise.

Hoovering finished the angelic duo are harnessed up. Bob , who can go for a full hour without tiring, heads off for a power walk round the lake. His third this week.

Sophie heads with me down to the stream. Today, as she ambles along the path, she munches contentedly on wild figs, windfall plums and the blackberries growing in the hedgerows. She finds the blackberries to be quite delicious. Only the darkest, ripest ones are chosen.

We progress homewards slowly, snacking as we go.  We discuss the firing of the White House Communications Director. Sophie is of the opinion that incivility might get you there but it won't keep you there.

The last three hundred yards is done at a super fast pace as Sophie's attention turns from affairs of state to the thought of breakfast kibbles. Her master trails along behind.

The file number of this photo of Sophie is #666. Read into that what you will.

I am imagining Sophie with a blackberry stained beard, while wondering about the impact of a berry and fig diet on what comes out the other end.
Meanwhile Bertie is feeling might relieved that he does not live in El Salvador.
Cheers! Gail.

666 ... but Sophie looks far too angelic...perhaps she's hiding her devilish ways behind that sweet exterior?

Seriously wild figs? I wish. Figs are my favourite fruit. Sophie has a very discerning palate.

Le sigh your home is lovely Bob and Sophie. You think it would be a perfect job for someone to do, cleaning your tidy abode.

The gardens are looking green and lush.

Oh Dog, I hope there were lots of treat-compensations for having to endure those outfits!!! Meanwhile, I again find a bond with Sophie, in her foraging choices. (We'll not mention the voles etc...) YAM xx

The grass is so green! The grass here has turned brown in the heat and drought.
The other thing about cleaning ladies is that they have no compunction about changing the way you have things arranged in your house, and if you say you want everything put back the way it was, they will tell you they have superior French taste and you should be grateful for them bringing it to your sad, expat home. They don't say it as bluntly, but I was made to understand it quite clearly.

Oh I had a good giggle with photo number! :) I am sure your Sophie and our puppy Hunter are related (if in spirit only). He's definitely 100% Lucifer.

A gardening day here in the hot August sun and brown summer grass of Northern California. Your green lawn and pathways look deliciously cool. What a bounty of fresh fruit for Angus and Sophie who has the face of an angel.

Understand about the dreaded vacuum--though even a broom sends the dogs scurrying. Looks so green and lush in your part of the world.
