Closer to home the village hall has been made ready for a birthday party. One of the nurses at the special needs home has her fortieth birthday today. A surprise lunch has been arranged in her honour. This is the first time the village hall has been used for a gathering since the pandemic arrived. Through the window I'm surprised to see a smattering of black balloons on the tables. An inflatable number 40 , also in black, is leaning against the back wall. Black seems an unusual party colour to Anglo-Saxon eyes.... or at least this Anglo-Saxon's eyes. A boom box and karaoke machine are clues that there may be dancing.

Nice to see the C-A-T again! And how very kind of C-A-T to give Sophie such an exhilarating morning workout. From your recent photos, it seems this must be Sophie's favorite time of year - she's got a real spring in her step. I enjoyed the Luxor video and sent it to one of our own cost centers, who is currently spending his Thanksgiving break in Los Angeles. The trip is a present for his 21st birthday last month and he seems to be having a wonderful time tooling round in a bright red rental car. I was beginning to wonder if I had lost my mind agreeing to this, but then he started telling us how excited he was to learn that the Getty Museum is currently hosting an exhibition of Assyrian art and artifacts. He's off to see that tomorrow, after doing his Ghost Tour of Hollywood tonight (!) At least we get to do a little vicarious traveling.
The Luxor tourist board's video has certainly succeeded in stimulating this viewer's interest in visiting.
Best wishes to the special needs nurse for a wonderful and surely richly deserved birthday celebration
I noticed a big Tesla dealership in Bordeaux on our last visit pre-pandemic (2018). Here in our small Moray village our opposite neighbour is awaiting delivery of his, with garage charging point ready. We're having one put in our garage for a future electric car but it definitely won't be a Tesla! Charging points are springing u all over the place, including 2 in our village of 1000 souls. If I have my French colour codes correct I think black = bling?
I've seen a few Teslas (usually with out-of-departement plates), but even more Renault Zoes. And even Twizys. The charging stations almost always have cars--but later in the day. I even saw a double charging station in tiny, remote Bugarach (do you remember how that village was flooded with hippies some years ago when the world was supposed to end but one would be safe there?).
At first I thought the party was sensibly set up outdoors. The black balloons might be a joke about turning 40 but they might become a premonition if the party turns into a superspreader event.
For one awful moment I read that a cost centre was spending Thanksgiving in Las Vegas. That really would put the COST in cost centre !
40, I can remember turning 40. My local owners association just signed a contract to install car chargers.
I don't think he knows about that Luxor yet!
I was surprised to find several charging stations in the car park of one of our local supermarkets. Not easy to access because the supermarket operates a barrier entrance and exit, with payment once over the allotted free parking time. Much as I'd like to, I don't think I'll go for an electric car here - it's too hit and miss finding stations outside main towns and built up areas. Like France, Spain covers a big area with an awful lot of empty country, and much is too far from "civilisation".
Sophie, Inca says to be careful with those C-A-T-S, keep an eye on them at all times. She only turned her back for a moment and the next thing she had three in her garden, and they're still here! What's more her human is now buying all sorts of different flavour kibble to tempt their appetites - they are really fussy eaters!
