Happy Thanksgiving.

A Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

This morning my shaggy companion promenades by the river and chases an audacious duck. Something 'wonderful' and crunchy is found under a tree and quickly swallowed . After a morning like this, Sophie along with everyone in The Rickety Old Farmhouse, agrees there is much to be thankful for.

On our way home Angus pops into the frozen food shop for some smoked salmon. Since our last shopping foray the smoked salmon has been moved to a new, and remote, corner of the store. It takes some finding. The display cabinets are now being filled with a selection of high cholesterol Christmas goodies.

Some Buche de Noel flavours are already selling out. The lady who runs the franchise tells me that getting new supplies is more 'difficult' this year. There is a shortage of drivers. I like the lady who runs the store. With all her children having 'flown the nest' she wondered what to do with all her free time. She got a franchise from a large national food corporation and opened up a store. Covid gave her some sleepless nights ( what a time to open !) but the outlet is now popular and has brought a touch of the wider world to our remote corner of France.

This mornings croissant reverts to its usual standard. An 8.2/10. We sit outside which the other customers find either amusing or alarming.

Post croissant music listened to on our homeward journey.  Although France doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving it seems a good choice to start the day  :https://youtu.be/P3QS83ubhHE

Not sure I'm adventurous enough to stay this far away from Central Park but the bar on the roof looks like great fun. There's talk of another lockdown on the way so next weeks dental trip to London is cancelled and thoughts of heading to Carmel for Christmas with family and friends have, finally and definitively, been binned :https://www.thewilliamvale.com/

We also visited the frozen food store today. In our case, it was my daughter's favorite porcini risotto that had been moved and was almost not found. For the first time, I see some crossover between your Picard and ours - the salmon en croute was given a prominent place in today's "Black Friday" sale. (It's interesting to see that Black Friday has made it to Japan when Thanksgiving has not.) We definitely do not have access to any frozen boudin blanc here or, more surprisingly, any Buche de Noel, which I am sure would be wildly popular, as ornate "Christmas Cakes" are a thing in Japan. Glad to know today's croissant was better and sorry to hear that both the dentist and Carmel are off the table. We are planning to spend a few very careful days in Kyoto next week, our first real outing in more than two years. The case numbers are currently very low in Japan, although our doctor thinks we are probably just a month or two behind Europe.

Do you think another lock down is on the way , not that it makes much difference this because the only place we go is the shops .
Christmas is also cancelled I have told the children not to send us any parcels having been hit with a 29euro customs charge last week .

We were hit with a Euro 85 hit on some sweat shirts from the UK last week. We too have said no more parcels.

It was our doctor who put us off travelling. He's beginning to see the first cases in patients who've had 3 doses. He's putting it down the start of the Christmas party/ dinner season.

You're British Angus, and allowed such eccentricities as sitting outside in the rain and worth the effort for a good croissant!
At least your search in the frozen food shop was successful Angus, and you found the smoked salmon. Fortunately it's in abundance here, and fresh too (it may have started it's journey from Norway frozen of course). We can buy a small pack with two or three slices - ideal for a sandwich or salad, and large party-size (or Spanish family size!) packs.
I too, have been hit with a 13:45 euro customs charge on a parcel containing my upcoming birthday gift from a friend in the UK. Almost half the cost of the gift, and we have now decided no more parcels. Earlier this year she didn't pay any duty on the gift I sent her. It's rather unpleasant to have to pay to receive a gift, and I feel we're being penalised for Brexit.

Being grateful for your little nook in a profonde corner of France is sound, I would say, as the world still hovers under the influence of the invisible. Though you have my sympathies for having to cancel plans of both health and joy. Today I feel moved to ask that you give Sophie an extra little few ear scritchies from 'YAM-aunty' - which may serve as further soothing to your good self too! YAM xx

The music video was different and rather touching. For once I watched it all the way through!

Sophie's first photo is marvelous! I agree with Gail, the video was touching; it reminded me of some of the videos created early in the pandemic, which I believe you posted here, Eh demain? by Le Collectif and Pour les gens de secours, by Lavoine, Obispo, and Pagny. I look forward to your Advent selections! We have nothing akin to your rather dramatic frozen food section here is SE USA.

Happy Thanksgiving to you! Sophie looks so cute today. I need to go to Brooklyn some day, one of my grandmother's uncles ran a bar there in the 1940's. Just across the bridge on the left.
