Paddle

A sudden and intense hail storm greets us as we open the front gate. This was not in the weather forecast. Sophie is not sure what to make of hail so she makes the executive decision to head back inside until the storm has passed.

Ten minutes later, intemperate weather over, we head off along the lane. Sophie checks the field for donkeys ( who have just been let out of their barn ) before investigating the drainage ditch for any titbits the owls might have left behind. The old mayor passes in the battered Renault with missing hub caps.  He's off to check that the widow in the cottage at the crossroads has lit the fire in her kitchen grate. ' There's going to be a bitter easterly wind today' he adds.

I think there may be three moorhens left in the village pond but they move so quickly I can't be sure. There are certainly two. The camera lens on the i-Phone is supposed to be much better than the lens on the old one. It isn't. Perhaps I should have waited for the 13 rather than buy a 12 ? The new phone is , however, better at producing unintentionally artistic effects like this pomegranate and out of focus PONette and zinc water trough.

This mornings croissant uninspiring. We're at the good bakers but our offering tastes like processed white. 5.8/10. How can it be so variable ? Perhaps there's a stand in baker today. It goes without saying that Sophie is of the opinion that all croissants deserve to be rated as 12/10's.

By the time we get down to the river the clouds are lifting and the sun is peeking through. Perfect weather for a paddle.

Amazing shot of the pomegranate - perhaps best not to mention the effect was unintended?

I think the camera HAS made a difference - but if birds don't want to be 'shot' they simply manage not to be so!!! And as a baker who constantly asks herself how a tried and tested recipe can yield different results every single time, I have sympathy for the croissant producer... (temperature out by a fraction, hands not working the dough the same each time, the sun came up backwards...) YAM xx

Bertie (now deaf) is not and never was a GWL dog. He only very occasionally tilts his head, usually these days when sitting in the hall as he sees I'm heading out on my bike without him.
Cheers, Gail.
PS. Bertie would like to point yout that, ahead of the curve as always, he published some research on this topic on his blog on 6 December 2013!: https://bouncingbertie.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-head-tilt-all-is-revealed.html?m=1

It's amazing how many variations there are going under the guise of croissant. We have the same here, and the most consistent I've found are from a local supermarket bakery, though even they are not always deserving of 8 or 9/10.
Head tilting is something that Inca does regularly, usually when I tell her it's (food/treats) all gone, together with a look of complete disbelief.

Wise dog to go back inside.

I agree with YAM about the photos - I think there has been an improvement with the new phone. The subject matter of the photos doesn't hurt, though. such a beautiful world you're in :-)

The clarity of the new phone photos has been impressive, to my eye. The old mayor is a gem. So is Miss Sophie.
