2023

I turn on the breakfast radio and hear this line written by the old Pope  " Each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary ".  The first words I've heard spoken in 2023. Quite possibly the most uplifting I'll hear on the radio this year ?

The family diva is usually asleep by ten. Staying up until the wee hours welcoming in the New Year takes it out of a girl. It shows.

Hogmanay revelers have written 2022 and 2023 in the sand on the beach. The incoming tide has washed away most of 2023 but left 2022 untouched.

A few joggers attract Sophie's attention but they're too far away to take much interest in.

Town surprisingly busy. A slow, but steady, stream of cars heading past the chapel .  I'm guessing Edinburgh folk are shepherding their families south before the traffic build up on The Queensferry Crossing really starts. Am I alone in thinking that having Christmas and New Year fall on a Sunday seems to have made this holiday season less frenetic ?

Concentration ... or determination etched on these musicians faces ? : https://youtu.be/OdibDKnp7Mc?t=81

Happy New Year!
Sophie might not be the only girl in Scotland experiencing a post-Hogmanay bad hair day this morning.
The music is beautiful.
Cheers Gail (who tends to think she is a casual and meaningless product of evolution but is determined to make the best of it!)

Happy New Year to you all, and may Sophie have less bad hair days this year.
We had a "start the year as we mean to go on" kind of "route march" walk this morning. Didn't see a single jogger or walker, and just one other dog walker in all the time we were out. Not many cars around either, so presume everyone was still recovering from the festivities.

I meant to thank you yesterday for the link to Dougie MacLean's rendition of Auld Lang Syne. You shared a link to his version of Caledonia some time ago and I carefully saved it. Both these songs are hauntingly beautiful.

That is a lovely sentiment.

A friend of mine (I suspect he is one of your councillors) posted this on his Twitter this morning, with a sunrise photo of St Monan’s church. I found it helpful…

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
“Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.”
And he replied:
“Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.”

Anonymous - I remember my parents telling me that the then King ( who had a terrible stutter ) read that out in his broadcast after the fall of France and amid fears that invasion would soon follow. They could still remember the words 60 years on.

Tous mes vœux pour cette année 2023, qu’elle vous apporte tout le bonheur auquel vous aspirez.
Cuddles to the lovely Sophie and a thought for the sweetheart Bobby and his brothers who rest in France.

Yes. It’s the opening lines of a poem by Minnie Louise Haskins. As you say, it is best known for being quoted by George VI during the 1939 Christmas Broadcast.

Happy New Year to the inhabitants of the wee cottage.

Sophie, I know how you feel this morning!

The reading of Sophie's antics brings many a smile to my face, long may it continue.
Best wishes from the opposite end of the globe where the chooks like to see the sun rise and retire as it sets.
