Progress. The builder arrives in shiny new electric Range Rover in red with a jazzy black roof. 3 weeks old and he's already had a run in with a lamp post that's left a nasty bump on the front bumper. It's agreed that the garden room will be built at the same time as the new conservatory. Work will start in mid-July and and is set to finish by the end of August. The builder ( finally ) sees the logic in getting all his men on, and off, site at the same time. We thought, when we moved, that the work on modernizing the wee cottage might take six months. That proved overly optimistic. It will take a year. What we'd not allowed for is that the good contractors run a ten to twelve month backlog of work. This is presumably canny cash flow management as they head into a slowdown.
Neither Angus nor Sophie are prepared for the wind. It's blowing at 70 mph this morning. The red fishing boat out in the estuary can be seen swaying alarmingly from side to side. You'd certainly need good sea legs to be onboard today. Four deer are grazing , happily, on the grass down by the shore. They look surprised to see us in a ' Who in their right mind would be out in a wind like this ?' sort of way. Who indeed ?

Had to laugh at Sophie in the wind - beautiful pictures :). As a lecturer, I also appreciate being able to do things before classes in the morning - good to hear your shops open early.
Looking forward to seeing the house updates - hopefully done while you move back into the Wee House?

We had that wind yesterday; today, closer to ambling strength. That special effects clip was entertaining! YAM xx
A classic windswept photo of Sophie.
I hope the 'set to finish by the end August' is not also optimistic...
WFT - We're hoping this means everything is done before we move back out of the wee house in town in September ! We're using a firm from Edinburgh who seem to have a more advanced sense of scheduling than some of the firms nearer to home.
My accountant husband refused to select a particular firm of woodburning stove installers because the owner arrived in an extremely new and top of the range Range Rover. Husband's very presybeterian words: "I'm not paying for that car".
Similar lag time for the good builders up here too, and has been since before the pandemic.
It took about a year for out kitchen replacement. Quite the windswept look.
Sophie looks very pointy this morning. I bet you have never been called pointy before Sophie!
if I'd met windswept Sophie on her walk this morning, I'd be asking you what breed she is!
It seems that builders and their ancillary workmates have their own timescale wherever you are. I've been waiting since last summer for insulation in the house, but every reputable installer is busy for months to come. It's still something of a novelty here. In spite of the fact that properties are built for hot weather, we still have winter and lately the temperatures overnight have been down as low as 0ÂșC. Yesterday morning, for the first time ever, there was ice on the car windscreen.
I love aerodynamic Sophie!
I had to laugh at Sophie's badger look!
Any improvement to Angus's back or is another climb up the osteopath stairs in the near future?
